Hey Edmonton, that tornado was in '87. Stop milking it.

Does anyone even talk about the 1988 Olympics EVER? This is just sad. I feel bad for Edmonton if this is the best they could come up with. Remember when their radio station cried because of the Goala song? LOL

Producing an "Edmonton Sucks" T-shirt is redundant. The word "Edmonton" on a shirt implies suckage to begin with.

The previous Edmonton major spent millions trying to change the name of Calgary Trail because it had Calgary in the name. Businesses all along the route resisted and it stayed.

Not really, asides from names like COP still being around (and the athletic training facilities that are still being used to train Olympians) I think the majority of Calgarians are past it. Heck we even took Hidy and Howdy off of our welcome to Calgary signs a bunch of years ago.

Ah okay, so more like "tried to" rather than they "did". Thanks for the info.

Nope. Gateway Blvd. is a relatively recent (8-10 years somewhere in there) change. It was previously Calgary Trail North / South until a few on Edmonton city council just had to change it to reflect Edmonton's status as the gateway to the fast growing and economically important 'north' (read Fort McMurray). Companies along the renamed route were up in arms due to the imposition of costs related to new signage, administrative registrations, and the like. Good old Edmonton.

^^ Yes, wouldn't be surprised if CJAY created an Edmonton Sucks shirt in retaliation.

It was changed in 2001, for a cost of $300,000, and I don't think that factored in the cost to businesses that had to change their addresses on everything.
What always made me laugh about this is that Calgary Trail is/was the main route to and from Calgary in Edmonton, but Edmonton Trail in Calgary hasn't been a major route to Edmonton for decades. Yet, if you were to suggest renaming Edmonton Trail, people would laugh in your face for being an idiot.
Of course, Edmonton Trail just kind of meanders along and gets uglier and uglier the further north you go, so in that way, it's like a little piece of Edmonton in Calgary.

I LOL'd loud at this one from a city that still celebrates their 80's Stanley Cups and Grey Cups like they happened yesterday.
