My best guess is the users simply don't believe it's as bad as the media says, or they think "I can control myself, I know when to stop" so they give it a whirl. We are talking about people who take street drugs here, they arean't the sharpest knives in the drawer to begin with, and hey, people like playing with fire.

A guy called into the radio here and described what it was like for him. He said that it was like he could control time. He said that he could slow things down, speed them up and even "rewind" things that just happened. Obviously, he was just replaying things from recent memory, but the intensity of the memory recall made it seem like it was happening again. If that is typical, I could see why it would be so dangerous.
He also said that he had an uncontrollable urge to chew on his lips and the next day they were so sore and swollen, he had a duck face.

You knowingly ingest chemicals all the time. Chemicals aren't the bad guy.

chemicals are slang for drugs that are manufactured, not produced from a base of natural products.
That's what I meant.
I should say that I could have been clearer in my post.

I don't think bath salts themselves would give you those kind of effects. I think it's more like meth, where people hooked on it will stay up for days or weeks at a time until they start to halucinate.

Pro-tip: Stay away from the drug stores. That's some bad, man-made stuff in there.

I don't know if anyone called her a badass but her trip was hilarious/annoying. It was on par with most reactions I've seen to that stuff but it was still funny.

Heh, a few people I've talked to in Calgary at places like the Hemporium say that the reason salvia isn't illegal and probably never will be is because almost no one wants to do it a second time.

Miley's no badass, Salvia is the ultimate beginner drug because its legal and the high is over quick. I myself have and will never do it because as Daradon has mentioned I don't know anyone who did it who has done it again and it mostly looks pretty dumb.

Better steer clear of this drug if it has repercussions like that!

It's not really interesting as far as a recreational narcotic goes, but I can understand why people mess themselves up with it. The high has elements which are similar to both cocaine and ecstacy, although much less pronounced and it wears off pretty quick.
However, like GHB, it's not a drug you can just do again when your HEAD says its okay, something experienced drug users have issues with. "Nah, I'm tough, I've done blah blah blah, I know my tolerance, I can do more".
This stuff really starts to mess with you when you take multiple doses and the problem is you have to go through a pretty brutal comedown to get to a time when it's 'safe' to do more. Bad headache, sensitivity to light, ecstacy 'sketchiness', nausea. It sucks.
I can't imagine this being more than a flash-in-the-pan drug like PCP was. The high is weak, the comedown awful and the unpleasantness associated with trying to avoid the comedown is significant. Once the ingredients are controlled this thing is going to go away; there's no money in it for producers.

Thank-you.
