I just had Lasik w/ cross-lining done as Gimble last Friday. Went in with -2.25 & -2.00, and as per my last appointment on Monday i have 20/20 in both eyes. No negative side effects yet (dry eyes, complications etc) knock on wood...

I paid $4,300.

A lazy eye needs to be corrected as a child, so no. If you have a lazy eye it is good idea not to put yourself at risk of having a complication of laser surgery. Even though there is a very low chance of complications you have to ask yourself if it is worth it.

Gimbel and Demong run between 4 to 5 k depending on your prescription.

I always tell patients that it is surgery not clothing, paying less is not necessarily a good thing.

My sister got this. She doesn't have 20/20 now, but she doesn't use glasses. Day to day concerns are gone, as well as costs of lensing.

As all of our kin, we are used to hospitals and medical delays. It wasn't perfect. She said the scariest thing was the talk about it.

I'll see if I can get her to join.

I got Lasik done in March, and have perfect vision in one eye (better than 20/20) and 20/20 in the other. Started with -4.00 and -3.5 with heavy astigmatism in the eye that isn't perfect.

Night vision is slightly more sensitive - for example, before when someone is an idiot and has high beams running behind you, it'd be annoying. Now if the same idiot does that, I actually have to get out of the way or find some way to avoid it because it will start to get painful after a short period of time. Other than the slight issue with focusing on high intensity light sources at night, everything else is perfect. No need for drops, no dry eyes, no irritation and no other side effects.

I'd recommend it to anyone.

That's what I figured.

That's very good advice. I have one virtually useless (lazy) eye. I've often thought if something happened to the other, I'd basically be blind.

You can get it done cheaper at Lasik MD. My wife actually got it done there with no complications. However, I personally know others who had it done there with less than ideal results.

Lasik itself was $1,800/eye i think at Gimble. Cross-linking was an extra $350/eye. So, if you don't need/want that it could be cheaper.

It should go away, may take 8 months tho. The night halo effect took a few years to go away, or maybe I just adjusted. Anyway, I don't have that affect anymore, it just takes time to rid dry eye and light sensitivity.

I had my eyes done at Lasik MD in the middle of May.

The recovery period was long and the post op care was annoying.....
It wasnt a smooth surgery, but now I have close to 20/20 vision.

I just have one eye that is always dry and need to take alot of tear eye drops.

I'll comment in another year as to whether or not I would recommend Lasik.

Interesting to read the different experiences from people after surgery, myself recovery was 3 days (although night driving was a little spooky for about a week)and in the 11 or so years since I have never needed eye drops and my vision is a steady 20/15.

Had my touchups about a month ago...

I originally had like a -7.75 and -8.25 in each eye..and got the surgery done at Lasik MD...about 6 years ago....had 20/20....but my eyes regressed to about -1.25 per eye...the past year or so.... but they said it was normal to regress if my eyes were originally that bad....good news is that they said I shouldnt ever have to go back for a second touchup.....bottom line though is dont waste more time thinking about doing it.....DO IT!

My wife just got her eyes done at Lasik MD, after battling dry eyes for a week, her vision is becoming very sharp. Best thing about Lasik is they guarantee 20/20.

$3600 which includes no charge lifetime touch ups.

Our insurance covered $450 and we just found out that we can claim at least half of the bill on our taxes.

I worked with a girl years ago who had a lazy eye. After she quit I ran into her on the street one day and noticed her eye was fixed. If I remember correctly it was a surgical procedure that did the trick for her, and she would have been around 30 yrs old at the time.

Anyway, not knocking Hesla's answer, but do yourself a favour and get a professional consultation before you give up on it.

She would have likely had a strabismus surgery to straighten the eye out. A common procedure at any age. A Muscle problem mostly.

First Lady (from what i gathered) has a refractive lazy eye. It is one eye that was not corrected properly as a child, and therefore the cognitive pathways were not built.

Hesla is a professional.

Also, what is this strabismus surgery you speak of Hesla? I have a lazy eye as well (prescription isn't even that high on it, around 2.5 though I doubt that has anything to do with the muscle being weak) and would love to get it fixed. I've never heard there was a surgery for it. My lazy eye isn't one of those weird looking ones though. Looks normal, vision is just blurry so I doubt this strabismus surgery is even meant for my problem. Just curious if you could go into more detail.

I've had a consultation with the folks at Gimble years ago (when I was 18) and they recommend I come back after I age more, so when I hit 25 (three years from now) I plan on going back to get my other eye fixed (which isn't even that bad).

Strabismus surgery is for an eye-turn. A lazy eye can be a muscle problem that leads to an eye turning inward or outward. It can also be a prescription thing where one high has vastly different prescription that the other eye during development, so basically the eye is shut off.

Here's a bump for this thread - I just had my initial consultation, and they said I am eligible for both traditional Lasik or the new wavefront laser - obviously the wavefront custom costs more, so my question is is it worth the extra $500?

They're your eyes, an extra $500 for a better product is a smart buy in my books.

Aside, Lasik MD is Calgary's after-surgery care is phenomenal. I damaged my eye this Halloween (theatrical contact lens gave me a left corneal abrasion, d'oh) and they helped me out big time. Very happy with them.

just ask your eye doctor. when i had by eyes done by Lasik MD and they asked me if i wanted the regular procedure or wavefront, i asked them if there would be any real benefit in my case. they said probably not, so i saved the money

Yes. Less chance of halo's around lights and studies show better long term vision.
