icon53 Video card issues

...I think.

Booted up my 5 year old custom built machine but got nothing on screen. Machine booted to windows because I could hear windows 7 login music. Restarted and booted again and same thing.

Everything seems to be working including video card fan.

I have no parts at home to trouble shoot this. I don't have an extra video card monitor or cable.

I removed the card from pcie slot and moved it to the second slot. Booted up and got the same result.

Moved card back to pcie slot #1 and same result.

There is no onboard video on this motherboard.

I'm going to try to bring home a video card from work to see if that does anyhing and a new dvi cable, but now that doesn't seem like the likely cause since its not booting anymore.

Also, with the video card installed, when I power off I get a beep. I removed the video card completely and I do not get a beep when powering off.

Do not get any other post beeps or anything. Computer just sits there.

When the monitor is plugged into the card it recgonizes it is plugged into something, just not receiving a signal. When I unplug the monitor complete it knows it is not plugged into anything.

Video card is a evga GeForce 8800.
Motherboard is a Asia p5k premium
Processor is an intel quad core q660
Windows 7

Anyone we think I anything I didn't try or have any suggestions?

Sorry for any spelling mistakes, I'm typing this on my phone.

Thanks.

how many output connectors does your card have? if more than one, try the other?

check to see that the cable at the monitor end hasnt pulled away?

Do you have Remote Desktop turned on, Teamveiwer, or a similar program installed?

If you do then you could log on and see what was happening with the computer, if the device was showing as failing or if it even is recogonized.

Ping that PC on your network to make sure it's actually in Windows and online.

Use Remote Desktop Connection to remotely operate the PC from another Windows 7 computer and troubleshoot from there. Many of my Windows 7 PCs don't even have monitors or videocards.

Card has two div ports and I've tried both.
Removed the cable and replaced it to no avail.

Remote desktop is a fantastic idea but I haven't got another machine to ping it from. Only other device I have is my iPhone. Anyway to remote desktop or ping from an iPhone?

Also I said before it wasn't booting to windows after I moved the ats but that isn't the case now. It sounds like it boots to windows. I must not have waited long enough before.

I'd make sure it isn't the monitor either.

Probably your PSU. I had a similar problem... instead of fixing the issue, I just switched it out with lower model video card which worked perfectly fine.

PSU is a 620w corsair. There is plenty of power there unless something has failed with the PSU. I'm going to try to wrangle up a vid card from work today, and i'l bring home a monitor cable as well and try them both to see if it makes a difference. Thanks for the help thus far.

I grabbed an Nvidia Quadro FX 1500 at work today and installed it and everything booted up fine. So it is the card itself.

Anyone have any suggestions for a mid level card? I don't keep up with the new stuff out, so I have no idea what is out there. I don't need anything top of the line. I don't game all that much, but I would like to be able to get on every once in a while. Maybe a game of Civ 5 here and there. I don't want to break the bank either because I will retire this machine soon. This will just be to tide me over for 6 months to a year likely.

Thanks for the suggestions and help!

Buy a Radeon 5870 from me. Cheap and will destroy almost everything on single monitor setups still. I used to pair it with an overclocked Q6600 and it was a great combo.

I think the 5870 is a little rich for what I need. If you take it Rico, let me know and I will prob take your 8800gts off your hands.
