I wouldn't be suprised if the Flames sign him to an AHL contract

I doubt it. Not with them coming right out saying that he doesn't fit into the organization.

Avs take Colin Smith. One of the most gifted skaters this poster has seen.
Myles Bell goes undrafted.

Went to high school with him. Wasn't really expecting him to be drafted but so happy to see it. Hope he can make it!

I feel bad for him, but at the same time there were a couple of posters going out of their way to say how bad a GM Feaster was for letting him go or that Leach had trade potential. Looks like the rest of the hockey world thought the same thing the flames did.

Interesting draft, first time I remember the Flames ever drafting 4 USHL kids which is not really a league I think real highly of but I was encouraged by the resumes and scouting reports on picks 1 and 4-7.
I don't really agree with the strategy of spending 2nd and 3rd round picks on upside #3 or 4 stay at homers and big project goalies, I think those are the types of players you can easily draft in later rounds and that they should have targeted skill there, particularly with the lack of it in our system. Arguably the lightest forward group on talent we've drafted since 2009.
Overall though you do get the sense that they have alot of conviction in their plan and building the prospect stable though which is encouraging after so many years of the Flames being such a laughingstock at player drafting and development

Liked the Oilers 3rd round picks in Khaira and Zharkov. Not a huge fan of the 2nd round pick.........thought Finn, Bystrom or Thrower should have been taken.
Really interested to see how the Justin Schultz situation now plays out. He only has the weekend now before he can start talking to other teams and July 1st he can sign with another team. Hopefully it's the Oilers and not the Canucks or Leafs. I think it will be Vancouver unfortunately.

Any thoughts why Max Iafrate didn't get drafted?

Dallas has Steve Ott on the block. 2 more years @ 2.95M. Would love the Oilers to trade for him.

I think Dallas is gonna need a lot of centre help if Ott goes.

They did the same with Latendresse, who turned out to be a pretty good pick.

So Gagner ++. Maybe Gagner, Ryan Jones, and a prospect/pick?

Dallas would probably love that, but a bit too much if I was Oilers GM. Then again, who knows what the heck Lowe, Tambellini & the rest of the Oilers brass would do.

Way too much from the Oilers. Gagner is still only 22 years old and has had seasons of 49, 41, 41, 42, and 47 points.
Ott is 29 and has had one 40+ point year.

My big take from the draft: is there a worse dressed group of executives in the world than NHL management/scouting types? I say no. Just a debacle when it comes to suit choices, fitting, etc.

Not saying it's a fair deal but what Ott brings to the table can't be measured in points. This guy would bring an element to the Oilers they just flat out need.

Agree on the last part and that is why I said a few posts up that I want him on the Oilers. Solid player.

I hate you guys for stealing Khaira. He's going to be a hell of a player. Tons of drive, lots of skill, and very smart.
