More about Jankowski, less about moon and Spears.
So Button and Weisbrod think he can be the best player in the draft - good enough for me. 2 name comparable thrown out there are John LeClair and Jason Spezza (kind of odd considering the 2 have little in common, both not great skaters? w/e)

Guys with #1 center potential don't grow on trees. If you think you have one in your sights, you have to take a shot. Like the pick.

As a Canucks fan: Not at all. White looked like a terrible choice at the time with no real upside.

Hope he'll be the next "Joe Who?"
Back when Nieuwendyk was picked, picking a guy from Cornell was pretty off the board. That one turned out pretty well for the Flames.
As I type that, they play an interview with Wiesbrod comparing Janko to Nieuwy.

Weisbrod is comparing this kid to Nieuwyndyk. Obviously GM's try to sell their picks.... but that's ridiculously high praise.
Still a bit skeptical but hopefully they're right about him 10 years from now.

Neuiwendyk was a Junior B player going to Cornell. Drafted 27th and lambasted by everyone. A lanky centre that was too tall for his own good, upside was tons of skill that wasn't tested. Sounds pretty similar to me.

Weisbrod says:
- Jankowski was their guy the whole way
- gambled he'd still be there at 21, in order to grab a 2nd rounder
- Reminds him of Nieuwy
- when all is said and done, he'll probably play 6'4", 220lbs, and silky smooth mitts
- youngest guy in the draft, 2-3 days and he would be eligible for next years draft
- would be a lot more high profile pick for next years draft probably (like top ten, depending how season goes in Dubuque
- Want to handle is development properly, will take as long as needed to get here

something else haha

I think a good comparison is Kyle Turris.
Tore up the BCHL (lesser competition), tall, lanky guy that needs to fill out and gain strength.

So correct me if I am wrong, but by playing in the USHL next year and going to college afterwords allows him to use the loophole to become UFA like Schultz and Wheeler?

Weisbrod just said - "I knew he wouldn't have made it past today. A couple teams were ready to snag him in round 1, if we hadn't"
Said it like he knew it from talking with people in other orgs.

yes it would, but he also said on the Flames twitter that he hopes to be in the NHL in 2-4 years, so I don't think we have to worry as much about that.
