Flames taking a ton of criticism around the web. HF going hard.
If it was Detroit or Boston making this pick at 21, they'd have been called geniuses.

I'm happy with the pick. Right when we made the trade I was thinking Jankowski would be on our radar with the second pick, so I was surprised when he was taken with our first. I first saw his profile in the prospects section of hfboards a few months ago and thought he sounded a lot like the path to the NHL Conroy took, but I guy with a whole lot more skill, so I automatically thought he might be on the Flames radar.
It is a very risky pick, but he does look like he does have the skill set to make it to the NHL. He can help us in the long run, which is what the draft is all about. It is very rare to get a guy that can actually help a team the second after he is drafted, and we weren't going to find that at the 14th pick.
All-in-all, I'm happy. Olli Maatta was on my list, and I did want him, but I can accept that they felt Jankowski was a better player.

It certainly is but I think some of the trepidation of the pick is the level of play that he has so far shown these skills.
So until he shows that those skills or type of player that he is at the higher level the comparisons to guys will always be taken with a little bit of a wait and see attitude.

For a 17 year old, the kid is really well spoken and fairly humble.

Yawn. Everyone around here knows your MO. It's boring and played out and I don't feel the need to point out the blatantly obvious to you because you like to maintain an oblivious sense of innocence.
At the end of the day the first thing you did was criticize someone for being positive. Just more of the same with you.

I realy wish people would put Moon on ignore. It gets rather tiring reading more of the same comments that get tossed around.

I think it's a wait and see approach.
With so many higher rated guys left and trading back, it's always a risk. I would have taken Teuvo but you have to give them a chance to play the next few years to see if it was a mistake or not.

Right now he is still such a huge project and while he may have tthe skills of players playing above him, there's so much more about the game he's going to have to learn and pick up when then competition improves.

Sure it is. But its also entirely possible for a superior player to look even more superior playing against inferior opposition.

Draft Pick

This pick reminds me of when the Nucks took Patrick White at 21 in 2007. Hard to judge a kid playing at that level against inferior talent.
Could be a huge payoff or total bust. I'll bet the later.

Reminds me of when the Rangers selected Chris Kreider out of high school. Big skilled centerman who is a great skater

I was pretty disappointed we didn't get Grigorenko/Girgensons/Maata but I'll hold my judgment instead of overreacting. I'd rather be positive

I don't even think it's being positive. I think it's just admitting we don't know much about this kid or enough about the other players to call them can't miss. I'm all for debate and negativity 3-5 years down the line. Sorry I chose your post to write this on, but it's a rare glimpse into logical thinking even while not being a fan of the move initially.

This reminds me of when Toronto drafted Antropov in 1997. Ranked 2nd round big lanky centre that they projected higher.

Ryan S. Clark @ryan_s_clark USHL spokesman Brian Werger just told me Calgary's Mark Jankowski (Prov) will be the first-ever first round pick to come play in the league.
