I don't understand this franchise anymore. The stars align and an offensive top-5 style forward drops down to your medicore draft slot, and you obviously draft him. But nope, Calgary says nah, we don't need him, we'll pick later instead. I don't understand.

This team always f'n trades down because of bad asset management.
We ALWAYS trade down. ALWAYS.
When are we going to STOP doing that.

I'll wait until I see who they nab at 21 before I say it's a terrible deal.
Could turn out to be a fantastic deal.

Wow, a lot of naive CP posters here... Poor asset management? There is no clear choice at this pick. Trading down was fine. Isolate this trade. Dont compare it to the Regehr trade, this trade was a fine one.

I love draft day on CP.
Posters bitching about us not picking some kid they've never seen play and have only hype to go off of. I'd rather trust our scouts to evaluate the remaining kids and decide whats best for the team. Especially considering how good our last 2 drafts have been.

LOL...overeaction!
How is this bad asset management? THey just picked up an additional asset.
They must obviously feel there isn't much difference between 14 to 21. McKenzie feels the same.
Pierre hates it? I LIKE IT!

That's pretty much it. Everyone loves to drink the kool-aid about "recouping" picks, but forgets to realize that we have to give up assets in return.

Majority of the people mad at this don't even know anything about these prospects, or very little about them at least. Just going by the TSN rankings doesn't mean much.
I feel pretty comfortable about this if McKenzie approves this. Don't forget, Pierre McGuire is the guy that ripped the Habs for picking Carey Price at #5... yeah

And Pierre is on crack... there was NO WAY the Sabres were taking up to take a goalie (Subban) that might not even be picked in the first round!

Given the way all European playing picks have dropped, there's a good chance at a steal I think.

Have to agree with Mackenzie though, talent level this draft is all over the place so getting a 2nd rounder back gives us options.
