Default An Experiment

I think the time has come, its time to take a break from Calgarypuck.com, and I have to see if I can live with all of the free time I would have.

Its been pointed out for a while that I've changed as a poster, that I've become mean and a bit of a unhappy force on this board.

I didn't intend that, If I've offended people I'm sorry.

I'm not being an effective debater and to an extent its become more of a grim excercise then what its suppossed to be which is fun.

When girls break up with you they always say "Its not you its me" In this case its true.

So I'm going to take the 6 month challenge and walk away from it all.

I don't have anything really intelligent to say in closing. At the end of the day on boards like this and all other boards you become forgotten within days.

But in the words of another notorious poster, its time to step back and rip the bandage off and log out of this great world

Your humour will be missed, but you do realize you are just gonna fill that void with porn right?

Well good for you. I once took an extended break from CalgaryPuck. With my normal CP time I created from the ground-up a storefront website for my company and we now sell product all over North America as a result (used to just sell to Alberta/BC). It was a lot more gratifying than arguing about dogs. These forums can suck a lot of your time if you're not careful. I may try to taper back a bit, too.

An interesting experiment indeed, we'll see you in 6 months Captain. I expect a big thread when you get back regaling us with your many adventures during your hiatus.

Good for you. You'll get the shakes at first and then you'll feel free.

Make it clean though. No peeking. No lurking. Zero is the way to go. Delete the Calgarypuck link from your "favourites." That forces you to physically type in the address instead of one-clicking it.

You'll come back in January but you'll be inclined to spend less time here and have more time for other things.

Get lost!!!

I have some experience in this matter.

Too bad, Captain. Hope to see you return. I imagine you may find something better to do anyway.

Did seem to be a bit of a witch hunt recently. Not sure why some people get off on that.

Why is it always the good posters that take time off? Just once I'd like one of the idiot posters to take a nice long vacation.

6 months from now the world will be destroyed.

You sure you can handle never seeing CP again?

half of my fun on CP is reading what the Captain has to say. Who's gonna step up?

Bah,

I don't want to see you go. Your anger and bitterness is what makes you who you are.

Will hopefully see you in 6 Cpt.

I walked away in March a few years ago, then came back in January the next year. Almost a year.

I've done a few other shorter sabbaticals. I don't pre-announce them though.

A very liberating thing to do. Another world out there. Its never the same for you when you come back and my interest in this place is at a record low. No offence.

My new time-sucking addiction is a directorship for a non-profit Society and I just launched a very successful half marathon awareness/fundraising event that happened last weekend.

Now I have to fire those guys because, as it was with Calgarypuck for a time, I'm having way too much fun and spending too much time doing it. Although, in this case, at least very productive fun for the community.

I think I know what the Captain has on his mind. Its probably not anything to do with a "witch hunt" (hadn't noticed any battles he's been in) but probably more along the lines of being constantly on line defending/debating and finding the repetitive nature of the same arguments with the same people on the other side a complete waste of time. It becomes boring and pointless if not depressing. The fun isn't so much fun anymore.

So, farewell to the Captain. I salute him grabbing his time back.

He'll come back but with different priorities.
