This needs a poll:

Would you accept the invitation to be an astronaut in this mission, and leave everything behind, knowing you would never come back.

YES
NO

I would like to go to Mars, but I would not want to die there.

I haven't seen Italy or Greece yet, so I can't go.

(though those places aren't doing so well right now. I guess there is always the Czech Republic and Thailand)

And so far I'm the only yes vote.

It's going to be a lonely ride.

On the plus side, I get the feeling that CP would have nominated me for this prestigious honor anyway.

I'm coming too! I'll bring some board games.

As much as I love board games, I'm still going with "depends on how hot the women are".

Capricorn One is a 1978 science fiction thriller movie about a Mars landing hoax. It was written and directed by Peter Hyams and produced by Lew Grade's ITC Entertainment. It stars Elliott Gould with James Brolin, Sam Waterston and O. J. Simpson as the astronauts.

Although Capricorn One is thematically a typical 1970s government-conspiracy thriller with similarities to Hyams's subsequent film Outland the story was inspired by allegations that the Apollo Moon landing was a hoax.

After the initial awesomeness of going to Mars, it would be so boring I would go crazy.

I don't think I could do it. Would be too lonely and wouldn't be able to interact in person with a large community ever again (unless technology improves quick enough). Would be quite depressing.

The entire population of the world can fit in the state of Texas giving each human an acre each... It's poor planning not over population.

It'll be funny when they start having equal opportunity debates about who goes. Hmmmm Mars is looking awfully white...

Relationships would be a disaster too! What if you hook up with someone and then they dump you for the other dude there and one chick is a lesbo. You're essentially the third wheel for a few years.

Imagine being that guy or girl that no one liked?

Or somehow you're the only one there with cold sores. The world finally has a chance to rid itself of cold sores so you're SOL as far as ever kissing a member of the opposit sex again.

Shhh, don't tell anyone, but that guy has herpes! Good luck ever getting any!

Would they allow gay people? From a colonizing standpoint being a homosexual (male/female) wouldn't really make sense. I guess they can still do it just to procreate but you'd need to have any gay people agree that they're going there and they need to do it with the opposite sex whether they like it or not!!! There will be none of this "I don't want to have kids" business.

No, it's our chance to breed them out!

Too much?
