I started running last year kind of sporadically and ran a 10km race last summer finishing in an hour and 2 minutes.
Starting up again this year, but really wanting to work on speed. I look/feel fit but I have friends who with 0 training are running a 10km in 50 minutes and would like to be able to get there.
Guess i'll have to keep working!

I started running this year. I was going 5km 3 times a week with a longer run on Saturday morning, but about 4 weeks in my knee got really sore 7km in on a 15km run. I took two weeks off and then ran once a week for a couple of weeks. Just yesterday I ran another 5km and my knee was hurting by the end. I'm worried that might be it for me and running. I think I'll take Devil's advice, though, and see a doctor for a knee brace. I've really enjoyed my longer runs, so I really hope this isn't the end for me.
I just got a water bottle and belt for father's day, and tried it on my run. I found it bounced around a little too much. Do you just get used to it? Or did I get something cheap and there are better options out there?

A 50 minute 10km is pretty friggin fast. When I was in the best shape of my life I could do a 48 minute 10km, but I ran and played soccer all the time back then. I think a 55 minute 10km is a pretty good target to shoot for and go from there.

I've been cycling for the past few years but I'm trying to get into running as well, as you can burn more calories in a shorter amount of time. Getting out for a 2 hour ride isn't as easy as it once was.
I've been trying to do around 5km every couple days. I'm using RunKeeper to keep track of my pace and distance. It's a good way to compete against yourself and have some healthy competition with others if you add them to your streetteam. I'm averaging a 5:30 pace. I'd like to get it to 5:15 or so.

I hate running too, but I found that a great pair of shoes makes life a lot easier! I also love the Runkeeper app as it lets me compare my previous times if I run the same route so I can see my progress.
Unfortunately I'm a fair weather runner and won't go out in rain or snow, lol. Otherwise I don't mind it so much if there's some decent scenery to hold my interest now and again!

I'm a fair weather runner as well. I'll hit the gym treadmill if it's consistently rainy. I track that with Runkeeper too and just note it as a treadmill run.

I've been going out rain, shine, or snow! We had a decent winter, but there was a week in January where it was -30. Dress in layers, and cover your entire head. The hardest part is going outside in the first place, but once you start running you warm up quickly. Ice was my biggest enemy, but the trails around my place were cleared quickly.
Once you go through that, rain or wind is no issue!

Bumping an old thread
I just ran in my first race today. It was a 5K (although there was the option of a 10K, half, or full marathon... The full marathon was a qualifier for Boston).
I finished the 5K in 28:54, which met the goal I set for myself (under 30), I'm exhausted but it's awesome to say I did it.
Just wanted to share the good news.
