There were no cameras according to reports, they trapped them in a perfect kill zone.

This was well planned.

There's no doubt that it was scouted

They knew the patterns and the timing and they went out of their way to kill their only witnesses.

It wouldn't surprise me if there were no shell casings, and the vehicle they drove off in was clean of any residue.

The guns they used are probably in pieces scattered from here to Lloydminster.

It will be interesting to see if these guys are caught and if they are what mistakes they made.

This isn't the average run of the mill street crime.

I bet they used an Ambulance as a get-away vehicle.

Demolition Shape charges too, impossible to trace.

A million dollars in $100 bills fits in a briefcase. A armoured truck can easily have multi millions of dollars inside.

You don't keep a million dollars in a mall at the U of A though.

Chances are much more likely that they were filling ATMs or emptying vending machines or something stupid.

Unless they had just left another previous pick up that was quite large, and then it is almost certainly an inside job.

This reads to me like an inside job, like someone fed the perps the info as to know exactly where to hit them where they are most vulnerable and when to hit them for the highest potential score.

They got away with the truck too, so if they had enough time to clear that out they got away with a tonne of money.

My friend does the tech support for most bank machines in Lethbridge. They will have a hard time not leaving a trail of where they spend the money. They'll have to launder it. He told me how much money can be in one of those machines, and while I can't specifically remember, I think he said almost $225,000 for a long weekend but usually quite a bit less gets put in during normal times. Somebody else in the know could probably give a more accurate answer though.

Those trucks may go on the same run every Thursday night. I doubt it's just to one place, than back to base, then another place, and back to base.

It sounds like that this crime was well planned, certainly the criminals would have figured out ahead of time all the places the truck was going to be, and at what time.

As to the first sentence, why not? ATMs are often loaded with hundreds of thousands of dollars.

I know a guy who works for securicor, a typical ATM run involves filling 40+ ATM's in a shift.

Bank ATM's can hold up to $150.000 in twenty's
Private ATM's can hold up to $40.000

Most aren't filled to the max but I wouldn't be surprized if those armored cars doing ATM runs have $2 million + in them.

We are really covering off all the lingo... Scouts, perps, inside jobs, kill zones, clean vehicles...

The way this thing apparently played out, I think these crooks watch all the same movies and tv shows we do, and acted accordingly.

The news seem to be skirting the issue of whether or not these characters got the money out of the truck. I know they got the truck, but I would assume it was locked, and the dough isn't just sitting out on shelves. But maybe it is. They haven't mentioned that it was empty, or anything like that though. Maybe the subject is considered too callous to be discussed now?

I was thinking they worked out their base plan from watching this:

Exactly what I thought of. I'll be disappointed if these robbers weren't wearing masks of former Prime Ministers.

Not so much confirmed as believed. But if they believe it is an inside job, that is a good indication they have an idea on who they are looking for.

If they can figure it out that its an inside job, they should be able to narrow the potential perpetrator list to a pretty small number in a hurry. Small enough that they could put out warrants for everyone who was on the list.

I've worked at emptying VLTs at a dive bar before, and you can easily get 30K+ from about 5 machines. I would expect an ATM to have at least that much. You'll be surprised how little 30K looks in $20 bills.

Just heard on the radio they have a person of interest, apparently a colleague of those killed, who they want to talk to. Some 21-year old kid they say.

Edit: The POI is Travis Brandon Baumgartner

They have at least one person of interest. On CBC they say police are looking for Travis Brandon Baumgartner, 21.

For real.

He lists some school in Sherwood Park as one of his groups.
