What's that system of scoring games for pitchers? 3 points per out, add one for every strikeout, than take deductions for hits, walks, and runs? This has to be one of the higher scored games 14 k's in a perfect game. Lots of no no's so far this year.

NY mets will be appealing for another No Hitter for Dickey's game tonight as well. He only gave up an infield hit, and gave up no walks. Two plays away from a perfect game.

Start with 50 points.
Add 1 point for each out recorded, so 3 points for every complete inning pitched.
Add 2 points for each inning completed after the 4th.
Add 1 point for each strikeout.
Subtract 2 points for each hit allowed.
Subtract 4 points for each earned run allowed.
Subtract 2 points for each unearned run allowed.
Subtract1 point for each walk.
I'm not even going to bother trying figure that out since my math skills suck hardcore.

My math says 101 but it's 12:30 and I'm tired so it could be wrong
It had never been done by a San Francisco Giants pitcher. It had never happened to the Houston Astros. It had only happened 21 times in Major League Baseball history.
But that was before Matt Cain joined the exclusive perfect game club on Wednesday.
Quote:
Cain reached perfection in style. He struck out 14 batters along the way, tying Sandy Koufax (1965) for the most strikeouts in a perfect game since 1900.
Quote:
Cain's Game Score was 101, the highest of any pitcher since Kerry Wood's 20-strikeout game in 1998 (105). In terms of perfect games, Cain ties Sandy Koufax for the highest ever.
Quote:
It’s the 14th no-hitter in Giants franchise history, tied for fourth-most by a team in MLB history, but only their sixth since moving to San Francisco and only their second in the last 35 years (Jonathan Sanchez threw one in 2009).
Quote:
Including Philip Humber’s perfect game in April, there have now been two of them this season. It’s just the third time in MLB history -- Roy Halladay and Dallas Braden in 2010, and Monte Ward and Lee Richmond in 1880 -- there have been two perfect games in the same season.
Quote:
The only other no-hitter on June 13 was also by a Giant: Christy Mathewson in 1905.
Quote:
The home-plate umpire for Cain’s perfect game was Ted Barrett. Barrett was the home-plate umpire for David Cone’s perfect game on July 18, 1999. He’s the first home-plate umpire in a pair of perfect games in MLB history.
Quote:
The third-base umpire for this perfect game was Brian Runge, who was also the home-plate umpire for both Humber’s perfect game on April 21 and the Mariners’ combined no-hitter last Friday.
In the final three innings, Cain was having trouble "being able to see the signs that Buster (Posey) was putting down because there was so much adrenaline, so much stuff going on."
In fact, Cain compared the atmosphere to October baseball.
"You know what? It felt like the World Series," Cain said, "but it almost felt a little bit louder, a little bit crazier than that. Every strike, they were going nuts for. It was truly amazing. I've never had that much excitement in every pitch, every strike, every swing."
That tension wore on Posey.
"I was as nervous as I've ever been on a baseball field," he said.
More than an hour after the game, Cain and his wife Chelsea posed for pictures on the mound. The Giants' grounds crew then joined Cain for more pictures.
Matt and Chelsea Cain then walked hand-in-hand down the left-field line, into the night and into history.
Talk about dedication on trying to get back to the bigs:
Mark Prior, RHP - Boston Red Sox: Yes, that Mark Prior. Nearly six years removed and several comeback attempts from his last major league game, the 31 year-old is showing signs of life as a reliever for Triple-A Pawtucket. In eight innings, Prior has allowed 2 ER and 4 hits with 5 BB and 19 K.
Armed with a fastball that is still reportedly touching 93 MPH and a sharp slider, Prior could become a key component in a Red Sox bullpen that has already faced all kinds of adversity this season. Crazier things have happened in this season alone so don't count out the former 18-game winner becoming a top storyline in the 2nd half.
ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney is reporting the Red Sox will pick up all but $2 million of what is owed to Youkilis. The Red Sox will pay the White Sox $5.5 million, according to ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine.
along with Neftali Feliz, Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando and Koji Uehara
not to mention Mitch Moreland, who, while not a pitcher, does play first base meaning that slot will be filled more frequently by Mike Napoli (like tonight) leaving Torrealba behind the plate, who while good doesn't call the game as well as Napoli.
Bah....
At least I took advantage of the 25% off sale today and got a new hat and running shirt

Dewayne Wise going into the stands, not catching the ball, fan picking up the ball showing it in his hand, some little ball a kid brought to get signed ends up in his glove and the umpires call it an out. This is truly as bad as it gets but also sooooo hilarious
