Can anyone run me through the rules?
I haven't exactly ever played Ultra Hardcore.
In Ultra Hardcore, life doesn't regen on its own. You need to use a potion, golden apple to gain life. Also the recipe to make golden apples is changed to 8 ingots + 1 apple.
The goal is to be last man standing. We log in, use RandomSpawn to spread out over a fresh world and then start.
Main rules are:
Can't PVP until end of first night. We start at 6am game time, so 24 game hours from that time (about 14 mins maybe, depends on how the server is running).
No Branch mining. Which is mining in a systematic way to gain all the important resources from an area. Including all of these on the wiki page:
7.4.1 Branch Mining
7.4.1.1 layout 1
7.4.1.2 layout 2
7.4.1.3 layout 3
7.4.2 Tiered Branch Mining
7.4.3 Simple Strip Mining
7.5 Quarry Mining
7.5.1 Tunnel-mining
7.6 Multi-mining
7.6.1 Quarry-Branch Mine
7.6.2 Quarry-Cave Mining
7.7 Quarry-DropShaft Mining
7.8 "Mass Mining"
Basically, anything which would be insanely boring to do and to watch.
Digging a simple staircase to find a cavern is fine, or in random directions. Just don't mass mine one location.
Towards the end of the match (normally like 2 hours) we normally open the deathmatch warps, which is just a way for people to more easily find each other, due to it being a lot closer to each other.
You should really watch some of our videos, or check out some of the Mindcrack ones on youtube, here is one from the most recent season - although they are using a different format (teams)

The Following User Says Thank You to Rathji For This Useful Post:
I pushed on with MCEdit. Once I learned how to use the Clone control it was very easy.
The glass block wall is in and looks great. I put in a massive obsidian wall at +/- 750 but noticed as I was flying around it that along one edge of the wall there is a 14-block wide swath missing. Just a massive void - not even bedrock.
And by just flying around the darn thing I realize that even +/-750 is a very large area!
Now that I have the skillz I think I'll re-attempt this with another world, and put the glass wall at +/-150 and the obsidian wall at +/- 500.
Unfortunately I work today and won't be able to spend more time on it until this evening.
@Rathji thank you very much, and yeah I've watched a lot of the Ultra Hardcore's posted, pretty entertaining stuff, I just wanted to see if I missed anything.
I think 750 is plenty small, especially if we had another group of 8 or 10. We didn't exactly have trouble finding each other last time with +/-1000.
Its certainly up for debate, but I like the idea that people have time to build little bases and stuff rather than just hold shift and creep around the whole time because half a dozen people are within 400 squares.
I guess it all depends on the number of players starting. Perhaps a good solution would be to create a world with concentric square walls every 500 blocks, and a smaller ring in the center for deathmath. When the number of players is known a quick decision could be made on which square to limit the play in.
It would sure go a long ways to making the world look artificially contrived, though.
I have someone else that would like to play. I used her account in our first match of this. Is there enough room for her to be able to try it out tonight? User name is fazila if it's not already on the whitelist.
And did we agree on a time yet?

Part of me thinks with the lack of advance organization we should just do free-for-all, but if each team can figure out a voicecom solution amongst themselves I guess it could work. Teams without voicecom isn't going to cut it though. 7PM Calgary time is great for me as well.
I installed new sound drivers, but I am probably going to use a voice recorder app on my phone as a backup to capture non-gibberish audio this time. Also hopefully my PC doesn't crash this time. I actually think its my SSD, but that's a topic for a different thread.

I'm thinking the same thing about a solo game tonight.
I also think we need to agree on what happens when it gets down to 2 people. Maybe warp to some kind of coliseum where the rest of us losers can watch the final battle?
something like this but with a larger diameter and some added cover?
