Um, no...actually. There are reasonable limits to what someone is expected to do at their job, and perform to every single customers special whimsy is not one of them.
|
I've never worked in the food & hopitality sector, but I do work in an industry where we have to deal with clients, often very demanding ones, on a daily basis. My employer has voluntarily terminated its business relationship with unreasonable customers like Springs1. There's no pleasing them no matter what level of effort we make, and it isn't profitable to try to satisfy their every whim.

WHY on any of my jobs I always worked hard? Who can you tell got a raise at a freakin donut shop within a month a half, 35 cents raise even at my FIRST JOB?
Don't you think that shows how much of a HARD WORKER I am?

How many servers REALLY bust ass you know for real? I truly don't know too many, because they are RARE that the WORK HARD AND TRY THEIR BEST.

Well, I don't have the time or money to eat out as much as you do, it would seem, but I am known to treat myself and my wife out on occasion. I'm as old as you are, and can count on one hand the number of bad service experiences I've had in restaurants (and I've eaten in restaurants that range from little better than a greasy spoon up to some pretty fine dining). I have only once not left a tip, and at that point I did speak to the manager about the service.
I guess the difference between you and I is that I enjoy the dining out experience, and I don't see my servers as meat covered robots.

It's unfair when that happens. We don't do that though. We can't control those people. All we can do is control what we tip.
I know it's unfair that those cheap people do that, but I cannot control what they do. I never said everyone was fair like us. At least we are FAIR. If you do poorly, you get a poor tip. If you do well, you get a good tip. If you do mediocre, you get a mediocre tip. If you do fantastic, you get 30% or more.

Same here. The company I work for dropped a multi-million dollar contract a couple years back because trying to please the customer wasn't worth the profit the customer would bring in.
Some customers just aren't worth having.

As you said, you don't eat out as often, so OF COURSE YOU CAN'T COMPARE US TO YOU. The more times you go out, the more experiences you have, DUHHH!!
Also, do you order modified orders? I DO, so the more modifications you put, the more problems you are more likely to have whether it's a real mistake or a lazy server that doesn't care to even write down your order or verify the plate for obvious mistakes BEFORE they bring you your food.

Right, but you do see how that demoralizes a server right? Lets say a server gives 500% effort and is rewarded with a POS tip. You think they're going to be giving that same 500% next time? Why would they when they just did to be rewarded with an insult.

The best part about this is Springs1? These 15-19 year old kids you hold to such a high standard, still make their tips and still work the exact same. People are still going to eat at these restaurants and nothing you've said in the last decade has changed this. You've literally devoted almost a 1/3 of your life to this online, and have nothing to show for it. Your just going to keep going back, getting angry and blogging about it. That is your future. There is no end game here, or ultimate goal.

You see it sometimes or sometimes even SMELL that they just took a smoke break and the fact that Stef319 said it. WHY would she just LIE like that, huh?
I see servers playing at times. Once I saw a waitress we had years ago at TGIFriday's flirting with a male customer. She was just chit chatting a while with him. I think she wanted to go out with him it seemed.

I've worked in retail and on a few occasions we had to ask some very unreasonable customers to leave and never come back.
For one particular service (autotrader) we only accepted credit/debit cards. Had one guy threaten to call the cops because it was unconstitutional to not accept paper money. I don't know, he could be right, but I was just a minimum wage worker doing what he was told. Owner told him to take his business elsewhere.

What's a POS tip? I only know of POS as "Point of Sale" that's what the computer they ring your check up on.
As far as what it sounds like you are trying to say, I understand. It's not MY FAULT those people are cheap. I cannot control them. NOT EVERYONE IS LIKE THAT!

But you said they flirt with cooks. Have you worked in a kitchen or did they allow a random customer in the kitchen to observe?

I've been posting on BBSes, usenet, and web forums for nearly two decades, and never have I encountered a troll so dedicated to his or her craft. This is absolutely masterful work, the stuff of legends.
If she's really crazy, though...

The thing that's really got me convinced that we're dealing a morlock is that Springs1 conveniently ignores messages suggesting he/she's a troll/morlock, only responding to messages where they can still garner an "in character" reaction from the crowd.
If 9/10 people call Springs1 out on being a troll he/she will cherry pick the 10th message suggesting that servers are humans and are trying their best. Or that the way he/she conducts themselves is inappropriate.

Seems to me all these awful chain restaurants you gobble down ranch dressing sauce at, seem to be opening up new locations all over America. They must be doing something right, and not changing at all because of what you think. It's almost like your ranting and complaining mean nothing............
