Quebecers seem to realize that they aren't going to simply go through with the planned hikes - they'll keep increasing tuition as long as the students there put up with it.
You just have to willingly give up half a year of school which cost about 10k including living expenses and give up 1 prime income earning years (100k) in order for you to save $1500 over the next 3 years if you are in first year. If you are in third year your savings are $250.

If its me i am happy the government pays or gives me tax credits for 75% of the tuition costs and keep my 110k.

Quickly skimmed through and I wasn't sure if this has been posted earlier. Large image but great visual summary of the numbers broken down:

That's a neat infographic, but how come it doesn't show average tuition per province for the three largest univeristy disciplines: science, social science, and liberal arts?

This made me chuckle

Montreal Grand Prix met with tumult and nudity in streets

Hundreds of protesters spilled into downtown Montreal on Thursday night, many of them naked or barely clothed, as police used stun grenades and truncheons to prevent them from confronting Formula One parties.
I feel like we're just hours away from the latest "don't tase me bro" video, although this time it'll be a naked french student "ne font pas le tase je bro!", it's gonna be classic.

I said it before, people in Montreal love this time of year because of all the partying and festivals and events. The protestors are going to see what litle support they have erode quickly. I seriously wanna see them bust out the water cannons on the protestors.

The student protesters dismiss the idea that taxes would need to be raised to freeze or eliminate tuition — which represents only a tiny fraction of the provincial budget and pales in comparison to the money spent on corporate subsidies.
Apparently math and economics are not taught at French universities.

The Quebec Govt should take a cue from these guys in dealing with the self entitled brats roaming the streets.

Not to side with the greaseballs, but I dont think student protesters in Quebec very much care what English Canada thinks about their actions.

A better guage of public opinion would read the La Press comments section and see what comes up.

Haven't most public opinion polls of Quebec citizens shown that a clear majority were against the student protests, at least until Charest went full ###### with the Orwellian civil rights-violating crackdown, leading people to sympathize with the students?

Keeping tuition flat or (insanely) lowering it means higher taxes for everyone else in Quebec. I'd like to think their support is mostly from people 18-28 and that most people in the actual work force want these clowns to stop this crap and suck it up.

How much any province receives in equalization is measured by a complex formula based on fiscal capacity, not at all on how much the provincial government spends. Quebec could pass the most aggressive austerity measures in the country and reduce spending to levels lower than any other province and still receive exactly the same amount of equalization from Ottawa.

As I understand it that is exactly how things went down. Support for the students was abysmal until the government starting passing questionable laws. My buddy at McGill told me he really loved when the students would walk around banging pots and pans constantly during exams (McGill continued business as usual throughout the ordeal).

If some idiots were banging pots and pans when I was writing an exam, I'd be bringing a sling shot to school with paint ball pellets loaded with industrial grade skunk juice.

And then I'd make sure that when those idiots returned to class that I'd be sitting right beside them screaming the lyrics to the song I'm so Ronry at the top of my lungs.

A bunch of idiots get arrested, protest fails

Masks, rocks and knives were among the objects seized by those arrested. Most of those arrested will be released without charge, while others arrested in neighbouring suburbs could be charged, Simoneau said.
