Still don't get the logic. We have always protected our nuclear facilities, and now we're going to protect the billions of dollars worth of infrastructure in Northern Alberta. What am I missing that makes this so wrong?
Plus, companies are much more inclined to invest in the oil sands knowing that our government IS spending the money to protect their assets, versus a country like Nigeria and Iraq, where they struggle keeping pipelines from being blown up.
In the end it'll probably be a good investment.

Sorry but we've been protecting nuclear 'interests' since we've had nuclear power. There is a reason for it.
Oh and 15-20 years ago, the oil sands weren't even close to being as developed as they are now. Hell, 10 years ago they were a spec of what they are now.
We're talking about billions upon billions of dollars in current infrastructure, with billions more being planned. This makes it an obvious asset to protect from any kind of threat.
The government's job is to be preventive about this kind of stuff, and not just react when the attack happens.

Dude, at least get your facts straight.
I'm not great at reading between the lines (perhaps that includes doing math between the lines), but I'm pretty sure 2008 isn't 15-20 years ago.

Oh, your educating me about oil sands? I have a vial on oil/tar on my shelf. It's one of the few souvenirs I have from my, well you get the point.
That was 30 years ago. He looked at me and told me, 'when we figure this out, we will be rich.'
I know how long ago it was. I didn't actually say any of that, but you were nice enough to assume.
Doesn't change it. It's a blackout. It's a pressure on police to keep media out.

Already answered, but no, that is the new rule. I'm sorry I confused you, the fact stands even though you didn't get it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but again, aren't we already protecting the oil sands? The posters who keep saying "But we protect such and such". Right, but aren't we already protecting it? If we aren't, then colour me flabergasted. To me this is just an additional layer of protection which may or may not be worth it, but with no evidence to show whether or not its needed. If we have to keep spending on the premise of "What If?", then we are really doing ourselves a disservice.

What a coincidence. I had a sample vial of "heavy oil" on my shelf 30 years ago, too. At least, that's what I told my mom when she found it.

Answered what?
You're making a pretty big point of saying there's only been 1 attack in the last 15-20 years, when in fact the latest round of bombings was in 2008, and before that in 1998.
You're trying to make arguments based on your superior understanding of what these INSET teams actually mean to us regular citizens, but you can't even get your simple facts straight.
Hell, this is actually the 5th INSET team to be created, care to give me an example of how any of the others have been used to blackout media coverage, or take away any of our rights?

So we need a special (or newly special) task force to combat a threat that happens BY YOUR STATS one of every 10 years?
And obviously very damaging as well.
No, it's Con government silencing it's critics.

As I said, right near the beginning.
In itself the law is good.
With everything else the Con gov has done it's not only fishy, it's wrong. It's a reduction of our environmental rights and limitation of media.

Go ahead, show me 1 concrete example of how one of these INSET teams has been used to silence critics.

Dare me one more time.
Put money on it.
Nah, put your house on it. Mine is a condo unit.
Do you have kids? Do they need a backyard?

I'd hoped not to have to spell it out, but the vial of oil joke was alluding to the tenous connections being laid out. Tinfoil hat jokes are too overused.

Daradon: This is all just a ruse to take away our rights and limit the freedom of the press
Me: I disagree, please show me 1 concrete example where one of the other 4 units exactly like this one have done that
Daradon: Random bablings, presumably to distract from the fact that he can't produce a sinlge shred of credible backup for his "theory"
