I finally got my hands on NEST I've never been so excited to get a thermostat in my life.
It doesn't recognize Canadian postal codes, but I've set it to Butte, MT and it's fairly accurate.
Best part is being able to control from my iPhone, iPad and PC.
Is that the device that the ex-Apple exec created? There was a lot of buzz around it, but I didn't quite understand the hype over a thermostat. I guess if its easier to program that your typical Home Depot thermostat, it would be an improvement.

That's the one. Much easier to use and intuitive. Auto away is really cool on a weekend for example, it has a motion censor and can tell when you aren't home. Adjusts itself to weather conditions and with the apps you can see your energy history, change your temp etc...
Location: Close enough to make a beer run during a TV timeout
Exp:
How does it know when you have gone to bed and when you get up? Can you pre-program that?
By the time I am close enough to the thermostat in the morning for it to sense my movement; I am usually turning it down because I no longer need it to be so warm.

Same here, pretty slick device. How do you get it to work on iphone though? I get punted to the app store which locks Canadians out every time I try to browse the home page.

You have to use it a lot in the first couple weeks. That's how it learns your schedule. You can adjust along the way, but it puts out a pretty solid schedule in the beginning and continually adjusts. I should say it's also light sensitive, so not only motion detection, but light detection.

I have a U.S. iTunes account...that's how I've been able to get it. If you can find some way to use a U.S. address and a different email account and buy a prepaid iTunes card from the U.S. Best Buy website, you should be good to go.
