Why would I want to put time in on a character I could only ever play by myself, when I have already completed the story with another character.
I just don't see the sense.

I haven't played it in years but wasn't that exactly how D2 was setup, you had singleplayer and multiplayer characters that were not interchangeable?

I don't think so, but I don't remember playing that much D2 online, as I had crappy dialup at the time.

I've been doing the Pony level on nightmare for gold farming. Have Gold Find gear and if you're level 60, you get increased gold find as you kill the special mobs. Takes about 15 min/run and get around 30-40k each run. Only down side is it's really really boring and since it's only on nightmare, the gear all suck (my golf find equipment is really low so I'd die in hell/inferno)

I've been getting about about 20-25K in 15 min give or take on the scoundrel quest on nightmare. If you don't have access to whimsyshire, then it is a good backup.

Do you need to get a separate staff for each difficulty? I only ever did it on normal, and have been ignoring components since then.

ALL ABOARD!

I guess you can pay for the increase for each level. I'm getting a bit discouraged by Inferno so I think I might go back and start looking for the components.

Where do you pay? The blacksmith?

You build the staff in normal, then you buy the plans for 1 gold form the act 4 vendor for each difficulty to upgrade your existing staff (might have to have beat that difficulty first, not sure). Stupid thing costs a lot thought. I think it was 200k to upgrade in nightmare and 500k in hell. Friends pitched in to help, so that wasn't too bad.
Didn't know the scoundrel run was that profitable. Probably better off to do those than the pony level since it costs so much to get in.

Now getting a goofy error when trying to log on. Says I need to dowload the patch and defaults to the downloader...which says my game is up to date.
Getting pretty annoyed.

I am 90% certain you are right. I believe that's the way it was.
I've been following this thread and some online info to see if I should purchase this game. Actually went out the weekend after it came out to get a copy but there were none, and I decided against the download. I don't know what it is but I prefer a physical copy.
I ended up picking up Skyrim, I think I made the right decision.

so all the way up to Hell Act 3 i've not had too much of a problem with elite enemies. some were harder than others, but all easily passable as long as i was smart. that is until i hit a pack of invulnerable Rock Giants. one yellow with the stats Invulnerable Minions (3 of them), Arcane Sentries, and Extra Health. i could barely even dent the yellow guy, and even spamming every heal i have as a monk i would get beaten down by the group in a few seconds. i respawned half a dozen times before finally giving up and running past them, they were literally impossible to kill. i'm all for a challenge in games, but this is getting ridiculous

Just finished Hell as DH. I was amazed at how much easier it was than Nightmare for me. Getting 60 was awesome for NV, plus equipment choice is wide open, I can't wait to spend some time upgrading my gear to lvl 60 stuff.. Right now I am sitting at 16.7k dps and 27k life, and done almost nothing as far as gear for a couple days (except weapon, which is only a 600dps).
As for some packs of elites, they are just impossible for whatever build you are playing, sometimes you just need to quit out.
What is the scoundrel run you guys are talking about for money? with him and the girl?
Off to try inferno for a few before I head to bed.

I think Blizzard nerfed the scoundrel run a bit?

Still good though, the run isn't for equipment so much. There are a ton of drops + quests to get gold. With inferno weapons + gold find armor, you will 1 hit everything so it's lightning quick and you get 20K give or take each time.

Act 1 quest 6 I do believe. On Nightmare. Hell enemies can kill you if you use gold gear and the increase in gold is minimal (usually they suck with everything else but getting more gold)
It goes by fast on NM
Normally I do about 18K dps, but with the gold gear it's just under 5. No big deal though because on NM they have about 1K health.

Tried the scoundrel run a few times on Hell and the gold isnt anywhere good enough to justify not progressing. If I get stuck in Inferno I might consider it, though.
What Gold find do you guys have, to find it good?

Blizz took out their nerfbat to the Scoundrel Run. Just got a quick update/patch that says as much. It's probably not much worth doing anymore.
