I'm around ~4500 dps unbuffed. I also use the 15% increase to damage healing rune but not the 8% passive.

When you get to Inferno, here's a great tip for any Monks out there.
Use the passive skill one with anything.
Then get armor that focuses specifically on one resistance only. You will cut the amount of damage you take immensely.
I raised my resistances up to 204 on everything doing this which means that you evade 45 % of the damage taken. Doing this made me lose a slight amount of damage (1K DPS), but gained 33% reduced damage, and oddly gained about 2K health.
Makes Inferno a lot less of a pain.

Solo'ed Act 3 Inferno with Monk on first try... Inferno so far from my experience is a joke by buying gear from the Auction House.

Just as there is no such thing as a casual heroin user, there is no such thing as a causal Diablo player.

If you enjoyed the other 2, then it is pretty much the same game with some small differences in skill progression that actually make it better for a casual user than D2, since you don't need to rebuild your entire character to try out a different skill set.
Auction house makes it easier for a casual player to get good gear, which is important so you don't get bogged down. Even if you just played it through once on a couple difficulty levels, you could probably spend 40 hours going at an easy pace. I am almost 42 hours right now on my counter, but I am terrible for afking for a minute and coming back the next morning logged in still, or booted from game, so I really can't say for sure how much of that is actual play time.

Rune's are not items you carry in your pack, they are associated with a skill, and are enabled after you reach a certain level, but you can only pick one rune per skill (as you level up you have more runes to pick, which may or may not be better).
They got smart here, early skills may still work on harder difficultly, because as far as I have seen, every single skill that inflicts damage is a function/multiple of your actual weapon damage, and no two skills are the same, you a later skill might do more damage, but not have some sort of charasitic you want (i.e. splash)

Your gear determine your damage output and your level determine the type of gear you can use. Your skills therefore reflect this growth by having their attack based on % of weapon damge. Ex. At level 1, a skill might be 150% of weapon damage and you have a 6 damage sword. That skill at level 1 would grant you 9 damage. Later on, you are a much higher level, you are using a 40 damage battle ax. That same skill will then dish out 60 damage per hit
With this system, while you unlock new abilities as you progress, your old skills are still relevant and new abilities are unlocked through the use of skill runes. I think this prevents people from just spamming one ability per character type
I think it's easier to see how skills and runes progress
Try playing around with it and with different characters
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian
Also, look in the game guides at the indv characters for the progression tree, and you'll see how the different skills and runes are acquired

Found this damage calculator spreadsheet a couple days ago but forgot about it until now. Will let you see what your damage will be with a weapon from the AH compared to what you currently have.

Hardest "main" boss for me was Diablo. This "rakanoth" or something guy was surprisingly hard with his teleportation bulls@#@.
As far as random "blue elites" go, they should just go take over hells and heavens and beat the S$@@ out of so called prime evils because...they can.

So basically the whole game boils down to Items? Seems kind of strange to me to have basically one modifier for all your stats. So if im against a character of the same type, with the same skills, its basically down to items that determine who will win a fight?

No pvp right now. Apparently supposed to be in a later update.
I would say about 30% of the game boils down to your skill build, but the rest is all stats (items).

hahah, I wish man but Mrs Rathji wouldn't go for that.
I took 2 days off last week and spent about 8 hours one day playing but other than that I get 2-3 hours in an evening.
