Default Moving Computers

Bear with me my tech saavy cohorts.

The deal here is that I'm moving offices and have to use a totally new computer but there are things that I want to come with me, such as my Firefox with all my remembered passwords and shortcuts.

Is there any way of doing this?

I don't know if there's a nice and quick way of doing it, Windows has the Windows Easy Transfer tool in some versions, but I don't know how good it is.

I usually just take a mass backup of my drive and then re-setup the things manually myself (i.e. for Firefox copy the firefox folder c:\users\whatever\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\ Profiles\whatever.default for windows 7)

But that requires some very detailed knowledge (or googling) most times for most software.

End up with Windows 7?

Just use Windows Easy Transfer. Very simple and you can specify stuff you want transferred that isn't included in default

Edit: Also, take a full copy of your C:\users\locke folder, because Easy transfer doesn't grab things sometimes and that will let you still manually recover them.

x2 on the Windows Easy Transfer tool. It is absolutely brilliant, and much MUCH better than the version that came with Windows XP. I've used it on a couple machines.

It brought details with it that I had no expectation of it remembering. I had changed the LogonUI background from the Windows default, and the Easy Transfer tool brought that with it.

Alright, keep the suggestions coming, but I'm going to explore Easy Transfer.

Old stuff should be left intact, if that is what you are asking.

I've used firefox sync in the past but the last time I used Windows easy transfer. Both are good.

Firefox sych worked beautifully.

The Easy Transfer worked okay, but it didnt move my Firefox over or my Outlook which are the two things I needed most.

Any suggestions on how to move Outlook across?

Probably depends on what version and how it's setup tho.
