What am I missing here? Is he not allowed to celebrate with the team that he is a part of? Or is there something else going on? Is there an unwritten role that I'm not aware of?

Putting on a shirt was a little silly, but a disgrace? I didn't have a problem with it. Mereles did it as well.

I seem to remember Laurent Blanc did the same when France won the 98 world cup after he was suspened for the final.

Politicians take a break from the G8 summit to watch the penalties.

Note the collective European joy at the Brits winning.

Cameron shares his thoughts on Terry pre-game.

I agree he's getting old, but who knows - he was "late to the party" so maybe he'll also leave late. Either way, his performance for this one day earned him a few more million euros of future earnings.

Huh? Terry took part in the celebration despite not playing in the final game the same way Peplinski and Hunter did. How are those two instances not comparable. Terry being an awful human has got nothing to do with the subject at hand. People were debating the merits of a player taking part in a championship celebration despite not playing in the winning game.

No one is comparing the personalities involved. I don't know how you drew that ridiculous conclusion.

That's the whole point of this discussion. If you hate Terry and Chelsea, then you think this is disgusting. If you're indifferent to them and it's no big deal.

Ivanovic was much worse. Full gear, Serbian flag and straddling the crossbar.

Imagine in 2006 if France had won the shootout, a red carded Zidane would have returned to the field to lift the trophy.

Because your comparison is ridiculous - it ignores why he wasn't playing in the game.

And Peplinski and Hunter should never be linked - however tenuous the link is.

Because of a bogus Red Card in the game before.

Not sure what a poor decision from a ref has to do with anything.

Ok, so let's say Terry was injured and not suspended, are you okay with that "racist thuggish piece of crap" accepting the trophy with the teammates?

Yeah - I acknowledge I am saying two different things, so it is only fair to you I clarify things.

He was suspended - and rightly so. If anything, Chelsea ought to be commended for holding out in the SF and battening down the hatches despite him. He made it harder for Chelsea to achieve their goal.

Had he missed out because of injury - even though he as a person disgusts me, I wouldn't have a problem with that - especially as it would not have been necessary to have a picture of Peplinski and Hunter in the same post as him.

Not even close to being true.

As the OP stated it is more a case of embarrasing than disgusting.

At the end of the day if Terry ever sits down and is capable of being honest with himself he'll note that his contribution towards the final win was zero. If he ever gets honest with himself he'll note that his contribution towards their semi final success was less than zero in the form of a direct sabotage of his teams chances. In short they proceeded to the final DESPITE his actions. They fielded a weakened team in the final BECAUSE of his recklessness.

Sure ... I'll give him credit for his contributions up to the quarters.

No-one is suggesting that he should have been absent from the celebrations. What was embarrasing was that he decided that he should be the limelight of it .... and in full kit no less. If he had any integrity and sense of team play he would have let Lampard, Drogba, Cech et al ... (i.e. the players) have their moment and joined in shortly thereafter.

When John Terry gets honest with himself he'll reflect that he was involved in 2 CL finals. The 1st where he controlled the destination of the cup and choked it up. The 2nd ..... where he was a spectator for the game due to being banned for his own stupidity/carelessness/recklessness..... and dressed up as a player for the celebrations.

And I read today that he described yesterday's victory as the best moment of his career?

The best moment of his career? Sounds very much like a John Terry statement. A big smokescreen to hide any acceptance of reponsibility for his actions.

And your Zidane point? What is it exactly? He played in the final.

His teammates wanted him to be there. He's their leader. He's not stealing the limelight from anyone.

He's the type of guy who has said in the past when they lost games/cup finals that "the better team didn't win today"

Going up to collect your medal is one thing, no one would have had issue with that, and if he missed out with an injury I wouldn't have an issue either with the way he acted

The problem is that he stripped to full kit and lifted the cup with Lampard (which he 100% pre-planned), they won the cup in spite of him and he still made himself the center of attention.

I wouldn't like it if anyone did that, however it takes a guy like JT to actually make himself the center of attention like that

He clearly didn't do a good job making himself the centre of attention as I didn't even notice he was lifting the trophy with Lampard. I noticed he was there getting the medal, but didn't know he took part in the initial trophy hoist.

After a little inspection, he's in the background. Far from being the centre of attention. I get that you don;t like him and what he stands for, but this just sounds like a lot of blind hate.
