Flames Nation has a good wrap up of Sven's season:

http://flamesnation.ca/2012/5/14/bre...redible-season

Quote:
Total points: 94
Points-per-game: 2.0
Even strength points: 54
Power play points: 35
Short-handed points: 5
Total team offense: 222
ES%: 60.7
PP%: 39.3
TEAM%: 42.3
NHLE: 49.0
Too bad he isn't going to the Memorial Cup. Like someone else said in the Winterhawk's thread, he'll win the Calder next year with the Flames!

Just so I understand the numbers...do those numbers mean he was 60.7% of their even strength offense and 42.3% of their total offense? Because if true that is ridiculous.

I think it means that 60.7% of Sven's personal offensive output was ES (and the remaining 39.3% was either PP or SH), and he had a point on 42.3% of the team's total goals.

Man, he has a great sense of humour.

Oh yeah, there’s also his five-game NHL stint in which he scored in three straight outings had the city swept up in Sven-mania.

The hope among Flames fans is Baertschi provided just a taste of what he’ll provide in the NHL ranks.

“I kinda shot myself in the foot there, I guess,” he said with a laugh. “Now, the expectations will be high.

“But that’s fun. It’s a challenge to keep it up. You always should have high expectations of yourself and should try to reach them. I’m pretty sure fans understand I’m still young and have to learn a lot and it’s not going to come at that pace from the start.”

We have to understand that Sven was running on a lot of adrenalin while he was up here, that won't last over an 82 game season. I have hopes for him to become a solid NHLer who can often make a difference but I don't want to set myself up for a let down either.

So, you don't expect that he will score 50 goals next year?

It is tough to imagine how Baertschi could be a disappointment in his rookie season. He was electric in the WHL. He was electric in his limited time with the Flames. He was electric in the Winterhawks playoff run, especially in the finals. He is a special, dynamic player of the sort that the Flames have not drafted in decades. I am not the slightest bit worried about a let down, because Baertschi is a fantastic player.

I agree. Hes going to be a cornerstone for the Flames for years to come. Hes the type of player that makes linemates better.

How many games has he took off ever? Even in the swiss mens league at 16 he was known for his energy and full out shifts. Even his head coach Heinz (?) was quoted as saying he was hardest working kid he ever saw.

Even when he got concussed at the WJ's he came back not missing a beat, lots of players come back corner shy..but not this kid. His little cup of coffee up here for 5 games didn't even come close to showing us what he can do because Sutter didn't give quailty minutes with top players.

Very few players have what Sven has built in, Crosby,Giroux and Skinner come to mind of players with this kind of drive to always to perform.

I'm excited too, but sheesh, guys, do your zippers back up.

(that said if he scores 20 next year I'm going to start getting REALLY excited)

I think the dilemma here is like getting back into the dating game after ending a longterm relationship. You want to get excited and dream when you meet a nice prospect, however, you keep thinking of the past and get a bit worried and start to doubt about the girl or guy before there is a reason to.

At least that is how I feel. The Flames keep suckering me back in with a run, and then fall flat. I want to get really excited, but because Sven is Flames property I kind of expect him to regress. Completely irrational, but such is life.

That said, he looks solid and it feels nice to actually have a prospect other teams are jealous of

Hey I hope Sven does great too but lets let his story unfold instead of putting great expectations on him.

I expect Sven will make the team next year but I don't expect him to carry the team or win the calder. I think he'll be able to contribute offensively if handled properly and I hope he's allowed some time to mature and come into his own.

I'm actually hoping he'll start on the 3rd line (maybe) with Backlund and they can help elevate each other's play. They seemed to have some decent chemistry building during the preseason. If he gets stuck on the 4th learning how to grind it out or "to round out his game" count me in the dissapointed camp.

Yeah I think the developmental side of the organization has been talent starved for so long that some fans are jumping the gun a bit. While I don't expect him to have as poor a first year as Nino Niederreiter they are both players of similar pedigree and sometimes the adjustment takes time.

I don't think he will have a hard time adjusting, in 5 games he had 3 times as many points as Niederreiter did in 55 games.

No, that's what I expect too (pending his ice-time of course). I think our new coach will be generous enough to not have him play with two scrubs.

^After the multiple "trade Bartschi" threads he is moved to Edmonton for a 6th rounder and scores 100 points the next season.
