Plus, it wouldn't make sense or matter.
Marvel built this huge Cinematic Universe and left this glaring plot hole in it. It's not a huge deal just something that bothered me. This was a very ambitious project and they pulled it off in spades but I get the feeling this was overlooked or the reason was cut from the Avengers movie.

It was a joke. I don't even read Thor or the Avengers. Well not really anyways. I've read the Ultimates and Avengers Forever, that's about it.

Loki asked Thor how much dark matter did Odin have to use to bring him back to Earth.
Is it a half-assed excuse? Sure, but better than them wasting 10 minutes explaining/showing how he was able to get back. Maybe it will come to light when the DVD is released.
However it is not a plot hole, since they did explain how it happened.

It made more sense then having Worf randomly show up on the Enterprise in Star Trek: Insurrection.
They also state that without the cosmic cube, Thor and Loki couldn't get back to Asgaard.

Unfortunately it's already made more than $200 million overseas and probably will get a sequel.

"The Avengers" sucked the life out of "Dark Shadows" at the box office this weekend, as the superhero blockbuster dominated ticket sales and left the vampire comedy looking pallid.
After its $207.4-million debut broke the record for the biggest opening ever — not adjusting for inflation — "The Avengers" had another phenomenal weekend in theaters. In its second weekend of domestic release, the film featuring Marvel comic book characters such as the Hulk, Iron Man and Thor raked in an additional $103.2 million, according to an estimate from distributor Walt Disney Pictures. That means the movie made more on its second weekend than any other film in history, a record previously held by the three-day $75.6 million made by "Avatar."
But "The Avengers" passed an even bigger milestone this weekend: It crossed the $1-billion mark at the global box office. Playing in 54 foreign countries this weekend, the movie grossed $95.4 million, raising its international total to $628.9 million. Combined with the film's $373.2-million domestic tally, the movie surpassed $1 billion after just 19 days in worldwide release.

looks like Joss Whedon is the next James Cameron. so happy to finally see him get mega-blockbuster numbers, one of the most underrated directors in Hollywood. should be interesting to see what he does next since i'm sure the studios will buy almost anything he throws at them

i was going to suggest that, but in all honesty i think it's done and should be left alone. the major storylines are tied up and Book and Wash are dead. Serenity reminds me so much of the Farscape finale mini-series, it was awesome that we finally got something to finish off both shows, but the endings were so bittersweet knowing that they were finally done for good

Avengers isn't his own IP, pretty big difference.

Maybe it's just me or maybe I just know a lot of geeks, but I wouldn't call Joss Whedon 'underrated'. I was under the impression he was well known to be a great director and story writer. By no means am I calling him overrated, just, not the opposite, either.
Also, I will admit I went to Avengers 4 times within the week (thanks to coupons, and what not!) and saw it in UltraAVX 3D, regular 3D, IMAX 3D, and normal non-3D. While I'm someone who hopes 3D dies out (just went with which times worked best) and thought AVX and regular 3D didn't add anything at all, I found the IMAX looked so good.

Not underrated. Just not overly commercially successful.

name something outside of Buffy though that Whedon has done that's been a commercial success. he has a sizable cult following, but until now he's never been up there with the elite Hollywood directors for success

I always wonder how much success a second Serenity movie would do... I think the audience has only grown since the first one, most people I know are like myself, found it after the series and the movie. I think it would probably have a huge opening weekend.
Also... I've never watched Buffy... all the seasons are on Netflix, I wonder if I should. Maybe wait for winter to hit.

He had Toy Story, at least in part. But I think everyone's on the same page and just arguing semantics. Whedon is a great director and writer, but until now I don't think many of the higher ups thought he would be able to translate to the mainstream audience. I wouldn't call him underrated prior to this though.

Maybe if Arrested Development works out for Netflix I'd honestly think starting back up Firefly would be better than a movie, but that would require Castle to fail to get Fillion.

I'm one of the people who got into Serenity several months if not years after it came out and I know there's a couple of us out there but there's likely just as many casual fans who had their fill of it and with the last movie I think it more or less was "tied up." Although, even with his Avenger success, I think he'd be hard press to convince a big studio to make a sequel to a 10 year old movie that lost money.
I'd give Buffy a go, but be warned the first couple episodes really really suck. The last couple seasons also not the best.

Around-the-World Roundup: 'Avengers' Reaches $1 Billion Worldwide
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3443&p=.htm
Based on Sunday estimates, The Avengers has joined the fabled $1 billion worldwide box office club. The movie reached this level on its 19th day in theaters, which ties the record-breaking pace of Avatar and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (though The Avengers was only playing in the U.S. for ten of those days). It currently ranks 11th on the all-time worldwide chart with $1.002 billion, and by the end of next weekend it will move up to fourth place behind Avatar, Titanic and Deathly Hallows Part 2.

I'd like to know how it ranks in terms of butts in seats. The added dollars for 3d and IMAX definitely helped reached that billion dollar mark.

I came into firefly after the fact and loved it and Serenity.
Josh Whedon just plain writes strong dialogue and makes his characters very realistic. the guy also thrives on conflict between characters.
I would agree about the Buffy statement, but the whole series is well worth watching. the first two episodes (Welcome to the Hellmouth) started slow but by the final fight you could see how brilliant the series was going to be. Season 6 wasn't terrible, it just went to a far darker place then people were used to, the quipy, funny charming buffy was gone and left in the grave we got a confused, hardened cynical buffy. But there were some incredibly brilliant episodes that season, off the top of my head "Once more with Feeling", "Normal Again", "Hells Bells". There were a couple of others but I can't remember the titles.
The last season was a bit of a train wreck and went to far to the woman's empowerment thing.
If you want to see Josh Whedon at his best, pretty much the entire run of Angel, with Seasons 4 and 5 being brilliant, four because it was just dark, 5 because it was on a lot of levels hilarious.

Yeah.
My wife and I arrived at the theatre an hour early only to find that the 2D showing we wanted to see was already sold out, so we ended up paying a premium for the inferior experience of watching it in 3D.
