It'll probably be July/August before a Canadian carrier gets it, so it'll only be 3 months after that before you're eligible for a HUP.

And those 3 months are the time it'll take for the developer community to figure out how to root it and CM9 to be installed on it.

Not a huge fan of the industrial design for this one. Hopefully by the time it hits North America we'll be able to get it in something other than white and blue though.

In any case, it'll be a huge upgrade from my original Galaxy S. Thing is getting slow now even with all the custom roms and tweaks I've done to it.

So the folks at The Verge don't seem impressed.

About time I replaced my BB, the S III looks amazing so I plopped a $100.00 down for a preorder.

Bell says 3 weeks to a month away.

I meant, I would have to use my old phone on a prepaid plan (or use prepaid cards) just until the S3 is released.

How were you able to pre-order? Just call carrier?

You do realize that without a contract, your carrier will be happy to continue your current month to month plan, right?

Unless you are currently on a pre-paid plan, then ignore me.

Are we pretty confident this will be out here within the next 4-6 weeks or so? Just had my S1 Galaxy stolen over the weekend in Phoenix. Was just going to buy a crappy flip phone & wait it out until the S3 comes out, but if its that close I'll just have a mobile phoneless May & buy it next month.

Just wondering because when I talked to the girl at the Bell kiosk today, she seemed to think it could be another 3-6 months before its here. But she was also 19 with piercings through both sides of her nose, so she may just not know what the hell she's talking about.

I'm currently with telus(no contract) but I got a $100 gift certificate from Bell in the mail, it was due to expire so I took it to a Bell store and put it down on the S III, when it comes in I just go in and complete the deal.

oh. Didn't realize they allow that. I had always thought they would terminate my service as soon as my contract expires.

They will happily keep you on your current plan on a month to month basis without telling you. They want to keep getting your money and if they can do it without you realizing you're eligible for a phone upgrade even better.

You're joking right? They'd be delighted to give you a new phone, because the cost of subsidizing it is built into the shiny new multi-year contract they'll make you sign. They also get you back into the store, potentially giving them the ability to sell ancillary services and accessories.

Mobile carriers love subscribers, and they especially love subscribers locked into contracts. They could care less whether they get all the subsidized cost for your cell phone up front, or spread over three years, that's a tiny cost of doing business on very lucrative contracts.

Yeah, in my experience if you haven't upgraded and your contract expires, they realize there's nothing keeping you from switching carriers and they start practically begging you to come get a discounted phone. You have all the leverage at that point.

Interesting, because this is the complete opposite of my experience in the past. Maybe because I haven't had a contract in quite a while (the value of cell phone contracts is another conversation) but the last one I had ran out and I never heard from the carrier at all.

Although I do see where you're coming from sclitheroe, a contract guarantees them at the very least the buyout cost of said contract and at best 3 years of profit from you.

No such thing as a discounted phone, it's all built into the price of that contract. I don't think you actually meant discounted, but the terminology is significant when we are talking literally thousands of dollars worth of contract over a 3 year term.

You would go month to month after the contract is up. If you had any discounts, they would likely have expired with the contract, however.

S3 wireless charger. Hasn't been launched yet as they don't want the product to be solely associated with the S3.

Samsung Galaxy S III shows in Best Buy Canada leak due June 20th, maple syrup uncorked to celebrate

Jitters have persisted that the Canadian release of the Galaxy S III might face the customary weeks-long delays that those north of the border are used to. If we go by what looks to be an escaped Best Buy Canada flyer graphic, Samsung's Android 4.0 beast should be going up for pre-orders soon -- MobileSyrup hears May 30th -- with launches on at least Bell, Rogers, Telus and a Bell-owned Virgin Mobile around June 20th. We know that Samsung has publicly promised a US release in June, so there's a real chance that we could be seeing a simultaneous North American appearance that brings everyone together in TouchWiz harmony. There's still some big questions left open even if we're seeing an accurate snapshot, such as when Mobilicity, Wind and other LTE-less carriers will get their units as well as whether or not the LTE versions use Snapdragons instead of the Exynos 4 Quad.
