I doubt it, Edwin is not a very good 1st Baseman....
If Lind is truely going to be demoted or whatever... They will need to find a new 1st Baseman.

Why not try JP at first.....going with Mathis and eventually D'Arnaud at catcher then? Sure its not ideal to bring him up at this point but if he's ready and he can help the team he should be in the mlb imo.

I see no way the Jays would recall D'Arnaud at any point this season. He needs at least a full year at AAA.. It would be a huge mistake to rush him.
When that happens if D'Arnaud is truely ready, I bet JPA is traded...

jays have also inquired about peter bourjos since the angels have a glut in the OF. i wouldn't mind bourjos for the right price.

I believe in the Jays.

I would love to know what the asking price is for some of these guys. We could really use a decent SP and 1B. I highly doubt we will make one of these guys happen though, as AA has shown he doesn't like to give up much in the way of prospects, and he also likes acquiring guys with years of control on their contracts.
I would just like to know out of curiosity.

They were just talking on MLB radio - that any deal surrounding Hamels/Victorino starts with D'Arnaud, and I do have to agree with them. The Phillies have Carlos Ruiz catching, and though from what I remember has been having a pretty good season, but he is still an aging catcher. D'Arnaud has to be their first target in any deal, followed by a top arm... You aren't going to get two of these guys for cheap, let alone one of them.

This is not a make or break season for the Jays. There's no reason to rush D'Arnaud or any other prospects for that matter. And to be honest, D'Arnaud still has some work to do.
Playing Mathis everyday at catcher would be suicide for the lineup and JP just doesn't have a proven enough bat to play 1st base and his defensive would most likely be even worse then Lind's.

I think this is just another case of the Blue Jays being attached to almost every player that is thought to be available, and in large part due to the fact that AA leaves no stone unturned.

Absolutely. I highly doubt we would make a move that would sacrifice the future to get a pending free agent. That is very anti-AA.
We will, at some point, have to acquire a starting pitcher that can eat some innings during the 2nd half of this season, though.

It just seems very anti-AA to go after rentals like this, especially for the cost required to get them.
He's all about getting players with years of team control, I just struggle to believe he'd part with top prospects unless he's reasonably sure they would be Jays for the long term.
Hamels has been linked to the Dodgers as potentially signing there in the offseason, so it would be quite a gamble to pick him up as a pending free agent.

The only way getting Hamels/Victorino is if you're able to work out an extension with them for the long term.

How important is defence at first base though? It's not like Lind is anything more than average defensively. So the difference here isn't that significant.
If Lind is going to produce at a 700 or lower OPS, than the team should be looking for ways to replace him as first base is a position where you should be getting at least an 800 number.
If anything, it's the idea of taking an everyday left handed hitter out of the lineup and putting a right handed hitter in. But if Guerrerro can come up and be a 750 OPS guy, and Lind continues to struggle...the Jays may indeed opt to go that way. Although in time, they have to be looking at first base as a position they need to upgrade. You can stop gap it this year, but they have to find a better long term solution there.

Defense is very important, or the rest of the infield amount of errors will increase
Difference between Lind and E5 is quite abit. Edwin would be a very poor fielding 1st baseman.....

Fransisco just does nothing for this team and I have no idea why AA signed him. This team has above average players at every position but 1st base and an awful bench outside of Davis

Drew F from Getting Blanked and DJF's had some great twitter commentary this afternoon about how lucky Jays pitching has been so far to get out of some of the jams they have.
MLB batters are hitting .225 on ground balls this year. Henderson Alvarez's BABIP on grounders? .143.
Roy Halladay's GB BABIP this year? .275. He's better than Henderson Alvarez.
Ummmmmmm .160. Wow RT: @james_in_to: What's the entire Blue Jays staff BABIP on grounders?.
The Rays - second in baseball by DRS and the kings of all shifting - team BABIP on grounders is .231. SEVENTY points higher than the Jays.
Nobody likes Butter more than I do and the Jays defense looks great. But the storm's a comin', ma.

There is a number for how many poor throws there are to first, and than for how many a good defensive 1B gets, an average one gets, and a bad one gets. Even EE will still get every good throw and probably half of the bouncers. Over the course of a year it might be 4 or 5 more errors than Lind would make. How many more runs can a 750 OPS player give you than what Lind is currently giving you?

Not the one...

EE is fine at first base. As a 3rd baseman his errors were mostly throwing.

This lineup right now is just a dream scenario for lefty throwing pitchers. AA has put together above average talent at nearly every position on the field but our bench is just god awful. If anyone can explain what purpose Ben Fransisco serves on this team, I would love to hear it.
