I live in Oregon and have 4 tracks to ride at within 150 miles of my house.

My wife and I talk about moving back to Calgary, but the lack of a racetrack is on our list of "cons" for moving back.

Glad I decided to wait a bit to bring the bike out. Feels like winter is making a comeback.

Next week is supposed to be 10+ every day, but of course this being Calgary it needs to snow and be cold for the 3 days before that.

Anyone get a chance to go out yet? I was out riding on Friday for a bit but it was so windy I almost got blown over to the wrong side of the road and into the path of an oncoming semi. It was a little scary.

Any recommendations for a motorcycle school for a beginner?

I was recommended this one today, but to get my own helmet if I didn't want head lice.

I went to Calgary Safety Council. Excellent program.

Yeah, getting your own helmet is a good idea, I wish someone told me that before I took it. Nice thing about the CSC, is that if you book your test through the Beddington registry, you can use the CSC bikes for your road test for free.

That's where I booked. Came highly recommended near the beginning of this thread.

I ended up getting full gear (sans pants) though. Reading through their website, PPE is at a minimum and you've got to get there early to get it. I'm not a fan of wearing stuff hundreds of people have sweated up. Or spending two days in stuff that doesn't fit well. I'd much rather be focused on the course and not the fact that a glove keeps falling off, or the helmet has a pressure point. I'd say your own helmet is a bare minimum. Followed by the nice to haves of boots, then jacket, then gloves. It's not like you're not going to need the gear later anyways.

By the way...I have a Joe Rocket Alter Ego Jacket XL for sale $80. Very good (not flawless) shape.

(I'll post in the for sale section later...just thought it would be on topic here too)

Too cool is a really good school. The guys that teach it are excellent. Most of the gear they have for lending is in pretty good shape.

Since Fozzy did it, I'll do it too....

I'm thinking of selling all my moto gear as having 2 kids kinda changes priorities.

I've got a Power Trip 3 in 1 jacket, Shift gloves, Puma boots and 2 pairs of riding pants.

I ride a '06 Ducati Monster that I'll probably sell for ~$5k. The Monster is an excellent beginners bike.

I'll list this stuff in the Buy and Sell forum as well.

PM if interested...

I Second Calgary Safety Council, My wife and I both did the course in March. My wife has never driven/sat on a a bike before, Hates and has trouble driving a standard car and she was able to pass her class 6 road test 3 days after the course. I did do the weekday class and I notice that there is about double or triple the students on the weekend class.

Yeah I've seen that before. Could be true in most cases, but not mine. The only time I've had to wrench something was to take off the windscreen and to take off my regular mirrors to put on bar ends.

I'm not a gear head, so I've been taking the bike to Motorad. Relatively cheap oil changes...

Just teasin. They have style, there was one at work here for a while, had all the exposed covers on the engine. I just love the mechanical look so it really had my interest. As far as riding, I still haven't gotten the crotch rocket out of me yet.

Took the Too Cool course this weekend. I can't say enough good things about it. It's rare to see the genuine passion and care that these guys have for what they do and the safety of their students and the community as a whole. I can't recommend this course enough. Looking forward to taking the advanced course after getting some miles under my belt.
