I'd like to see more Walking Dead characters. Michael Rooker was alright but a bit player in the series and a bad interview, IMO. Get the Sheriff, Darryl, Hershel, etc.

Also, I thought the artists were great this year but get them away from the entrance to the Corral. It was hard to see most of them with the steady stream of traffic through that area.

Firefly for sure, maybe Richard Dean Anderson and SG1, DSG and Star Trek Enterprise would be good as well.

RDA could do 2 booths, one for SG1 and one to show us how to get out of handcuffs with only gum and some coffee grounds.

Calgary Police might shut that booth down though - sums a batches

Chances are your never going to get the major from Star Wars, you'll get guys like Rick Baker and Peter Meyhew (sp?) and David Prowse and the guy who played Boba Fett , Jeremy Bulloch I think.

You might get Mark which would be interesting because of his voice work, but I doubt you get Carrie Fisher which is too bad or Harrison Ford.

The Cast from the original Battlestar would be epic, but would suck unless you got Jane Seymour (Meow) or murdered the kid who played boxy on stage.

Gil Gerard I heard would need a fork lift to attend.

Which instrument were you?

I was about to leave the Corral in a big crush of people when I suddenly heard: "And now, the music of F-Zero!!!"

My brain spontaneously made me cheer louder than I did the entire con and everybody looked at me funny. Then I instantly turned around and shoved my way back through the crushing tide of people to sit down and listen to Mute City, Big Blue, and Death Wind.

Can I join your band?

Richard Hatch was an even bigger perv like you wouldn't believe. Talking about the vivid dream he had about Katee (he was serious) and convention going young blonde ("no... red") things that would stay in his hotel room...

What would be really cool is if the Calgary Expo grew to the size of SDCC. I know it will never happen for many reasons, but if the Calgary one got to be the SDCC of Canada, I could deal with that.

When I say SDCC, I mean like Game of Thrones panels, Avengers panels, brand new stuff and revealings, stuff we would never get.

I can't see Harrison Ford, Ewan McGregor, or Natalie Portman working the convention circuit anytime soon, but I don't think it would be too much of a coup to get one or more of Mark Hamill (a confessed comic fan), Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Billy Dee Williams, etc.

Billy Dee Williams was a guest 2 years ago also. Mark Hamil definitely does all the cons and doubles for Star Wars and as the Joker.

I don't think Harrison Ford ever does any conventions. He only appears as Comic Con, etc. if contractually obligated by his studio to do promotions as that is a big studio/industry con for new films. He's on an entirely different level than many of the other celebrities on the convention circuit and he doesn't need the money, ie: even many of the big name Star Trek guys basically make their living off conventions after their Star Trek career was over. Poor Garrett Wang wasn't even an announced guest or got any billing anywhere. He just rented a table like any other dealer in the dealer's room to sell his own t-shirts and prints!

As far as other ideas for making a big splash...maybe get away from the strictly sci-fi franchises (Star Wars, Star Trek, BSG, etc.) and branch closer to cross-over mainstream pop culture?

Perhaps a Ghost Busters reunion? Back to the Future reunion?

That would never happen. The SDCC gets that because it's an industry funded convention, not a strictly fan convention. Guests at those cons are paid by the entertainment companies to appear and do autographs and promote new movies as part of their contractual obligations. The industry is not going to split their NA promotions to have one out in the middle of Canada for some reason.

We're pretty much three years behind Toronto's Fan Expo, including this:

I think we're number two in Canada?

And were largely uh, un-busy. Sci-fi from 30 years ago lacking Star Anything doesn't get much of a draw and certainly isn't considered "headline" talent.

Billy Dee was there 2 years ago. Ford, McGregor and Portman won't be doing events like this pretty much ever. There are A-list film stars reaching far outside the Sci-fi medium which brought them to fame. Outside of the official Star Wars celebrations it would take an extremely large pay-day to bring them in. They also have busy film schedules as well to consider. Events like the entire ST:TNG cast won't happen again soon for a host of reasons. It was once-in-a-lifetime sort of a deal.

Organization for next year needs a lot of consideration. The biggest issue is land use. There is a TON of unused/wasted space inside the buildings and out that would have made life so much easier for patrons to manuver. If people entering/leaving the Coral could have used the outer hallways, if all the shut doors to hall were open and even a few exterior areas quardened off with security fences people could have moved about the entire expo much easier. One BIG enterance to the grounds with 3 seperate and CLEARLY marked lines (Pass holders, Pre-buys and need-to buys) so people knew where to go. As well as more signage with directions to the Coral/Autos/Photo ops and the signing times posted someplace you could actualy read them without binoculars.

Also, WTF is with the giant, fat handbook you get listing events, maps and photo ops? Where is the tri-fold pamphlete with a map on one side and all guest shedules on the other, easy to fit in your pocket? And how about a last minute changes/additions hand-out? Fix these things, adjust some of the guest/line-up areas and bloody hell open more concessions and this thing would have gone off much smoother for many.

Was still a great time but improvements need to be made. These things are always learning adventures.

Haha, that's awesome. We have a ton of F-Zero recorded on the Knight League EP if you're interested. I play the keyboards and talk on the mic, so that was me you heard.

Oh also Billy West pretended to play my keys on the stage, which is super rad.

There wasn't enough for anyone then. Arriving at 10:45 (thanks to the line-up confusion) you should still get an event change plan that shows panels have changed rooms. Had friends take their 3 year old and wait 20 minutes in the wrong line because nothing was indicated. A photocopier and a pallet of blank paper next to the enterance fixes this issue.
