Default Panasonic 60" LCD - i think its a good deal?

Oh wise price guru's of CP, what say you.

Costco has a 60" Panasonic LCD with stand for $3399.99. The dude in the store told me next week its being reduced by another $500.00.

When i asked the guy at Best Buy he was shocked and said he was going to get his Costco card.

Is this a deal I shouldnt pass up or is it just a run of the mill type deal that if I wait on I will find again?

I'm assuming you mean LCD projection, and not LCD.

It is a decent price, but Costco had it on for that a couple of weeks ago for the same price; the $500 is after a rebate.

Myself; I'm waiting for summer. New model come out in spring, and electronics typically go down in price, or offer better features.

yeah i saw that one and drooled pretty good. It is LCD projection. I don't remember the model number right now though. Just trying to decide if it is worth replacing my Toshiba 50" with it... decisions decisions...

edit...

just did some searching and panasonic no longer offers a 60" LCD Projection TV. I believe that this is the model number "PT-60LCX64-B" which would be a discontinued model, so really, "old" technology... might be best to hold off...

i am wondering though what is inherintly wrong with buying last years model (assuming at a discount).

i mean if i bought this at full price last year and it was a good unit, would i already want to upgrade? a tv should last 10-15 years, so its only going to be new for a short time, but if you can buy it a discount, whats the problem?

is the technology out of date? It looked pretty high tech to me, but i am a noob.

opinions?

well, back on a more serious note....

Problem with the new TV's is that the technology is advancing at a very quick pace similar to the computer revolution during the 90's were they got better almost every week. So this years TV is almost obsolete once you purchase it. Don't get me wrong, when i saw the TV i got a little excited picturing it at my house, but its tough. You really have to look at your priorities when it comes to television. Since I have HD, my next TV has to be complete 1080i resolution so when they start pushing 1080i on TV, I'll be fully equipped. Right now, those TV's are at least 1K higher in cost then the "regular" widescreens. Oh well, wait for them to drop in price...

(keep in mind, i'm fairly ignorant when it comes to a lot of the TV stuff... i've just picked up a few little things over the last little while looking at TV's, so who knows, i could be talking out my a$$ and not have a clue!!!)

My friend who works at Futureshop told me the 42" Panasonic PX500 plasma has been dropped $1000 and is now $3400 w/ a free stand. IMO, this is the best plasma out there right now.
