Wow, was I ever fooled...by both the polling and my estimate of Albertans' courage. I never thought we'd see such a massive majority based on so many "frightened" votes. After having derided Ontario for the better part of a decade for voting for "the devil you know," (the federal Liberals) we've now had people doing exactly the same thing here.

I'm disappointed in the winning party...the majority...and the size of the majority. Four more years (+/- 1 month) of "nanny state knows best" for us. Definitely the death knell for the Alberta Liberals...they've been completely squeezed out now that big-L Liberals have a new home in the PC party.

In 2008 there 950,363 votes for a turnout of 40.59%

I guess you could scale up the polls - assume they are of equal proportion and no population growth since 2008 and you get around 49%. But that is a lot of assumptions.

Maybe but at least I'm honest about my strong dislike for the job that the Conservative Party over the past couple of terms and how corrupt and tired that they've become.

This election would have been a chance for them to receive a message that their conduct and policies weren't acceptable and they could have actually been motivated to fix themselves.

Instead they basically got rewarded for it and there is no reason for them to change at all.

I don't think that WRP supporters are being fair in dismissing this result as fear-based. I think Albertans simply preferred the change being proposed by Redford to the change proposed by the WRP.

Redford's speech sounded to me like she was taking this as a confirmation that she and her policies are all popular. The ~16 extra seats to the right of her weren't a message that resonates.

Questioning the policing capability of one candidate doesn't mean I support the other. Although at the end of the day, while the PC's might make financial mistakes in the next 4 years, at least they go towards policy ideas that may have some sort of long-term benefit.

I hated Ralph bucks and I hated this policy promise too. At the end of the day, I elect a leader to make some of these hard decisions for us, not shirk away from responsibility. To me it showed a lack of financial leadership, and no big picture vision.

There is no way this is true. The PC's basically took the Liberal vote which is a direct result of those voters wanting to avoid the move to the right...

Clearly not only fear based. Lots of factors in play, from fear of social conservatism, untimely comments, inexperienced candidates, excessive robocalling, etc. There was a huge shift in the last few days of the campaign.
