I think the lesson the WRP needs to take away from this is that Albertans are fiscally conservative, but there's absolutely no appetite for social conservatism any more. Expect them to spend more time vetting candidates to weed out the Hunsbergers and Leeches of the world next time.

I think this election pretty much proves that Alberta is in fact not fiscally conservative at all.

The Liberals had a better fiscal platform than the PCs did.

Alberta loves to spend money. Too many years of budget surpluses and being able to spend whatever they wanted to has created that.

Well I wanted to vote Liberal, but couldn't take the risk of WRP winning.

The true tragedy is that we had a chance to spank the PC's but Albertans wanted to go MORE conservative and backwater rather than less. At least in outward appearances. As you mentioned, the actually actions and platforms could make one wonder where the real spectrum lies.

Only the anecdotes I've read in this thread.

A PC majority with 40% voter turnout is one thing, but a majority with 60% turnout is something else.. at the very least one can't say the WRP lost because the voters got lazy and confident.

PC's win! WRP scared me a bit with somethings Smith stood for, this came last week. One thing I do not agree with is getting free money from the government, the best they can do is reduce taxes. I dont need an entitlement!

I was actually speaking mainly about the WRP. Voters were initially attracted to their fiscally conservative policies, but they lost the election last week when Hunsberger and Leech came under scrutiny. As much as Albertans may be unhappy with the PCs and think have shifted too far to the left, this result was a rejection of social conservatism more than anything else.

Is it possible you're taking this a little personally? It's politics: sometimes your party loses. You get up and go to work the next day, same as every other day.

As for the health inquiry, I have no earthly idea what Redford will do: but you've been wrong about everything else in this election cycle, so I have no reason to believe you're right about this. Redford isn't the devil. She's just a politician you didn't vote for.

Sure they can and the PC party will ignore and count on voters forgetting when it comes to the next election. It's no different than the federal PC's and the F 35 fighter jet program or the gun registry that got scrapped.

Yeah, those scary social conservatives.

Pretty sure the PCs won't lower taxes at all. They can't afford to unless you want a $10 billion dollar deficit.
