I've finally determined that I'll be voting wildrose. Their candidate in my riding is excellent, imo. He's from the oil and gas industry, and he's married to a school principal, which fits my interests quite well. The PC candidate described himself on his website as a "grassroots fellow like you." He seemed ok, but not like someone with a bunch of management expertise.

His being from the Edmonton area had nothing to do with it. Calgarians voted for Stelmach in a big way. His own idiocy cost him the leadership.

There was criminally low voter turnout nfor that election because there was no conservative party to vote for. I think in the raw numbers Ed got less votes than Klein did 10 years learlier.
That election, and the disaster that the PC's have become, basically set the table for the Wildrose Party to take over.

Oh, so that's why there are a spattering of Liberal MLAs in Calgary. I totally forgot how it was completely swept up in Tory blue.

Please feel free to point out where I said that Calgary voted all PC?
I suppose the fact that Edmonton had plenty of NDP and LIB's elected means that Edmontonians don't support people from Edmonton.

The Dani Bucks only allows you to buy the Playbook. To get the Ipad you have to tell Redford that you are poor and disabled and she'll give you one for free.

That means that Calgarians voted almost exclusively for Edmonton area leaders last election.

My original point still stands though. Calgary cares more about putting down Edmonton than vice versa.
Or maybe I've just lived here too long that I've started to develop a complex.
Moderate-Left leaning intellectual smart assery included.

Stelmach served one term as premier, whereas Edmonton and area have elected Calgary-area premiers for, what, a couple of decades. Edmonton is far more tolerant of a Calgary premier than Calgary is of a premier from these parts.

I just want a government that balances the budget and doesn't even open their mouths on issues like gay marriage, religion or any other "moral" issue.
Is this too much to ask?

It just that Calgary is better than Edmonton, it not a put down just a statement of fact.
The same argument always comes up from people from regina. They say that Saskatoon always puts down regina but regina doesn't care. Again the truth of the matter is that Saskatoon is better than Regina.
So of course you don't here much about Edmonton or Regina putting down Calgary or Saskatoon, it just doesnt work, in order to put someone down you would have to be better.

We'll have brothels in every neighbourhood under the Wildrose, so no one will need porn.
It will give a whole new meaning to the phrase "Madam Premier".

Oh Edmonton puts down Calgary. But has more to do with attitude of it's citizens as opposed to the city itself.

And in any case, not really anything like proportional representation--if anything, an across-the-board free-vote policy emphasizes the fact that a given MLA, having won the support of just over 25% of his riding's voters, considers himself entitled to run amok with his own agenda, which three-quarters of his constituents oppose.

I'm thinking, in a slim minority situation, that free vote on all bills goes out the window as soon as really it matters to that party to pass a bill.
Yes, I am jaded as well

Just got back from voting.
Feel kinda dirty. I can see why people get so tired with politics as they age. It's gone from voting for someone you believe in and having hope for the future of your (country/province/whatever) to voting for the lesser of the evils and just hoping the next four years aren't screwed up too bad.
Kinda like trying to figure out who to cheer for in a Edmonton v Vancouver matchup.
Will be an interesting race to watch tonight though.
