Reminder: Both series start tonight.

The Oil Kings - Warriors game is on Channel 301 on Shaw-HD (channel 10 in SD). The HD quality looks a lot better than their first 2 series, but still not CBC or TSN.

It's late in the first period and Edmonton is up 1-0. Brossoit has not been challenged from what I've seen.

Lots of empty seats at Rexall. I guess they don't like to watch winning hockey up there.

Has Edmonton always had these blue stanchions or what's the deal with this?

I hate colored stanchions.

I just looked through the Oilers highlights (damn you for making me curious), and it looks like the Leafs game in February was the first time they had them.

I also do not like them. I much prefer the semi-transparent ones we have.

Oil Kings lit it up in the second and are up 5-1 after 2.

In the other game, Leipsic scored with 20 seconds left in the first (assist to Sven). Tri-Cities out-shot the Winterhawks 16-10 in the first, but it's 1-0 for Portland.

Sven has added a goal. That's 2 points for him this game.

With two points tonight, and none for Rattie, Baertschi and Rattie are now tied for the playoff lead with 23 points each.

Brossoit let in only 1 all game and the Oil Kings win 6-1

Interesting note by the PBP guys is that Brossoit's night was very light despite the shot count. Moose Jaw as a whole played like garbage.

3-2 Portland after 2 in Kennewick.

Portland had a 3-1 lead, but former Flame prospect Holland scored a late PP goal to close the gap.

Both goals by Tri City were were power play goals. Portland is going to have to stay out of the box if they want to win this series.

20 straight wins for the Oil Kings. 18 straight for Brossoit, whose WHL leading playoff GAA is now down to 1.47.

According to the Winterhawks radio guys, a weak penalty call on the Hawks led to Tri-City PP and Holland scored again.

Tied at 3 halfway through the 3rd.

...And the Winterhawks get their own PP, and score to take the 4-3 lead just after the 10 minute mark in the 3rd. Rattie with the assist to re-take sole possession of the scoring lead.

Tri-City scored their first even strength goal of the game to tie it and force OT.

Edmonton`s not as strong as they would appear, they`ve faced some pretty poor competition so far in the playoffs. Tri-City or Portland would have a good chance against them in the final, especially since they`ve faced little adversity so far.

Saw them play in Kamloops near the end of the season, they looked dominant controlling the game completely and up 2-0 after two, but once the Blazers found a bit of success against them the Oil Kings went away and quickly...Brossoit wasn`t all that sharp in the 3rd and the Blazers won 3-2 in the final minute. Obviously only one game but still think the Oil Kings aren`t quite the shoo-in to win the WHL that their stats might make them look.

Curtis Lazar is going to be quite the hockey player though. One to keep an eye on.

Winterhawks win in OT. Assist to Sven - 3 points for him + 1st star.

Early in the OT, Carruth takes a penalty for playing the puck outside the trapezoid, but the Winterhawks withstand the Americans' powerplay.

Shortly after the penalty ends, Baertschi makes a great play (according to the radio guys) and Noebels scores the winning goal on Portland's only shot of the OT.

Hawks win 5-4 in OT and take the 1-0 series lead.

Baertschi and Rattie are again tied at 24 points and lead the WHL playoffs.

Game 2 of the Portland - Tri-City game is on tonight. The Americans took an early 2-0 lead, but Rattie scored his 14th goal of the playoffs (game 13) to close the gap (no assist for Sven).

It's 2-1 for Tri-City after 1.

Game 2 of the other series goes tomorrow at 5:00 at Rexall.

Tri-City took a 4-2 lead early in the third. Huge comeback from the Winterhawks to tie it on a late Rattie PP goal to force OT.

Pouliot with an assist on every Portland goal. No points for Sven.

In addition to the current Flames' prospects, I hope the WHL Final is Portland-Edmonton because I want to see Reinhart and Pouliot, since one of them is likely to be the BPA when the Flames draft.

RATTIE!!! Shorthanded hat trick goal in OT. It sounded like he forced the turnover and had a 2 on 1 with Sven, but chose to shoot and got the goal (16 goals in 13 playoff games).

Winterhawks go home up 2-0.
