I am torn. Really, I am a conservative, but I am so very liberal in social issues that voting for the Wildrose is troublesome. At the end of the day, I am a young white male with a girlfriend, healthy, working, no kids, no special needs, etc. Ideally, the PCs would be getting my vote- but I just think they are getting too stale.

I guess I'd rather not vote, than be responsible when Wildrose wins. I don't want to vote for anyone, but I've never not voted.

I just heard from my brother. he is finishing his Ph.D and looking for jobs at Albertan Universities. He was told by some that they could pretty much promise him a job unless wildrose got in, and in that case they expect big cuts to funding. That is not what I would want to vote for, but that's my opinion (and I'm biased because I want my brother to have a job he wants)

I think I heard you the other day. The host was talking to a caller and at the end she asked the guy who he was voting for, when he said Liberal she said "we need someone on the panel supporting the Liberals, I'll put you on hold and get your info". Was that you?

Edit: Congrats by the way. I wouldn't be too nervous, the only people who listen to QR that time of day are political junkies anyway

I am in the same position (just married)...I am a conservative voter typically. I have never missed an election either and I think I'm going to hold my nose and vote Liberal. I dont agree with all their points, but they are WAY more fiscally responsible than the PC's or NDP and are obviously much socially liberal than the WRA.

I think not voting is still giving the party you may not like a chance, but its obviously your right to spoil the ballot.

Well, that's pretty rock solid proof.

Have you actually looked at the Wildrose platform on education?

I honestly find the Alberta Party really exciting, but they don't have a snowballs chance in hell

Typical union mentality. Why don't we spend, spend and spend til our knees drop like Greece? Promising a job unless one party gets in is just shamless PC tactic. No one can promise you a job, you are either hire or you are not.

Well I should rephrase, keeping things at the status quo. School Boards continue to be cut. So how are we hiring more teachers, and giving school boards the tools and freedom to succeed when we have to balance the budget and won't increase taxes. How are we doing this with Healthcare too?

Obviously throwing money at both issues isn't going to fix everything, but we're not empowering educators or frontline heathcare workers with the status quo.

No, that wasn't me. I emailed in on a whim and just told the truth; I would normally vote Liberal but I'm not sure this time.

I can really think of a number of reasons not to vote for any of these parties, and then I do think about strategic voting as well. It's really hard for me to decide honestly.

Right Greece, because there couldn't possibly be any middle ground.

Well that's not exactly the same as cutting funding.

I was responding to Tiger's post where he was trying to say they would make "big cuts to funding".

They have the family tax credit and children's activity credit for sure. I think the PCs have the teachers and children's activities as well?

I'm not a fan of all these credits either but it looks like we are getting them no matter which party wins.

There's still time to vote Liberal!

I do find it surprising that people think the Wildrose can do all of what they say without cuts though. They somehow have a way to reduce taxes, increase spending and improve services AND giveaway money to boot. Its a miracle!

And everyone gets a pony, don't forget about the ponies.

I heard Raj in the debate today say he was going to provide every person with a home, food, clothing and a job. Might as well aim high I guess.

They're all a bunch of clowns when it comes to promises at election time.

It's not that high an aim as it has been done before in mother Russia, North Korea, China and Cuba. Outside of Alberta and maybe Sasketchewan, I can't say the Republic of Canada isn't heading that way already.

LOL. Successive Conservative governments in Ottawa, including a majority government now, tax rates have declined since 2000, and some conservatives are still not happy (well, decidedly more than unhappy: accusing Canada of becoming a communist state.) Some people simply aren't reasonable.
