Default Motel in Calgary downtown area

Someone was just asking me for a recommendation for a motel near downtown Calgary and I have no idea but said I know some smart people who could advise. It should be within a 45- to 60-minute walk of the Calgary Convention Centre, one night required and reasonable price. North, south or east of the downtown area is preferred. Can anyone recommend such a place that I can pass along?

Best Western on McLeod Trail? Located fairly close to the Talisman Centre

the centro motel has always stood out to me since they did their renovations. it's not downtown, but montgomery isn't that far out.

I guess I would ask why the person is asking for a "motel." For me the big thing about a motel is that you can park right in front of your room, and there is no common hallway.

Others might be looking for something with a kitchenette, or price could be the driving factor.

I don't really know why he specifically said motel either.

I just proposed those two because they are both near the C-train and have an easy 30 minute walk to the convention centre.

Price and locations are the driving factors. Drive in, sleep, wake up, leave, walk to an appointment, walk back, drive off. She doesn't require a nice place, just wants a good price and location.

Ha, I just noticed "driving factor." She wants to be able to leave a car there for the day, so no driving away for 24 hours. Motel isn't essential, but that's what she asked about so I'm relaying the question as it was given to me.

Thanks, all, for the recommendations.

A price range and their expectations for the hotel (restaurant/amenities) would help narrow it down.

Hotel Arts or International Hotel are below $200/night.

Ooh.. free..

Sadly, I think it's rubble now, if I am not mistaken?

Yep. Boarded up and part demolished.

The city pulled their business license. Apparently (allegedly) not calling 911 when someone gets raped at the front of the hotel isn't approved procedure.

Edited to add: The Alcove was the seedy bar in the parking lot of the seedy motel, which was called the Savoury Lodge.

We never specifically discussed that, but I'm pretty sure my friend would prefer not to use a place where physical assault is a likely outcome.

No more Alcove? Boo-urns. We used to go down there for 10 cent wings and warm beer while we were in SAIT. It was also a good chance to look at train people.

What happened to the interior of the Alcove when it changed from the Chinese restaurant? Did they renovate it or anything?

The interior was very interesting at that point and I have many childhood memories of being in there with the circular doorways and the big paintings of junks covering the entire walls.
