Brands? Models? Retailers?
Looking to spend $200-300.
Basically, they're for once a week Old Fart hockey.
Suggestions?

If you can get a hold of them, the used Flames skates are always a great deal. I've found skates worth $500-$600? for $150-$200 in the past. Only thing is fit, takes a while to find a pair that fits.

Prefer new to used. Been down that road already .
Also, I have a normal-shaped, non-mutant foot, so stores specializing in "hard to fit" isn't a requirement.

Check out B&P Cycle and Sports. Great hockey shop, lots of selection. They will help you find something right for you.

Buying used skates is kind of like buying used shoes. Not a good idea in my opinion.

I saw a special a while back on CBC Newsworld about a new pair of skates due to come out soon (maybe out already?). I forget what the distinct feature was for these skates, but they were supposed to be a revolutionary innovation for ice skates and help players turn better, at sharper angles. Iggy wears them actually. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about??

Went to Sport Chek tonight Reg...85% of the skates are under $300...
Almost made me buy a new pair...they're mostly all significantly better then skates that price a few years ago, when I got my last ones.

Skate fitting is so individual that it's really hard to recommend one specific skate for you.
Your best bet would be to go to B&P Cycle or Tuxedo Source for Sports and have them go through a complete fitting with you to find the skate with the best fit for you.
(BTW, I have Mission Pure S300's and I really like them but that won't help you unless you have the same feet as me)

Iggy wore Kor Skates for two games. He uses CCM Vector Pro Skates as his regular skate.

Try Professional Skate Sharpening. They have a few locations in Calgary. The Marda Loop store is the main store. IIRC.
Get them to help you get "fitted" for a skate. If the skate is in your price range buy it. If not tell tham you will think about it than try and find the skate or one similar at a sport chek, canadian tire or another chain store.
This is what I would do.
I'm still using 15 year old ccm vaku tacks. Already replaced the blade three times.
I would like to buy new skates but I have not skated in a couple years. However if there is cp shinny, I'm in.

I wouldn't recommend Pro Skate Service to anyone. Only go there if they have a better price on anything but skates. I have heard enough horror stories about people being improperly fitted for skates as Pro Skate. Heck, I was even improperly fitted for a pair myself. Pro Skate just ain't the same since the old owners sold the stores so they could buy GRAF Canada.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I settled for a pair of Bauer Supremes 5000 models, which I picked up at Sports Chek on sale.
I like 'em coz' they're Old School all black with leather uppers (none of that silver lamé Gary Glitter new-age stuff with molded ridges and plastic inserts and assorted gadgetmacallits for me, thank you very much).

Okay, bad example. I suppose I should have used Ace Frehley as an example. :P

Hey Reg!
I also bought the Bauer Supreme 5000s during the past weekend for $300 dollars at Sportschek. Too my surprise I see that they are now on sale for $200. So I went and got my $100 refund from Sportschek today.
Just thought I let you know in case you wanted $100 back in your wallet.
