Maybe so. In my situation it was the end of a long day for her and she looked very tired. I stood there as she answered questions from the local media and other dignitaries. Dispite all that she asked if I could wait until she fulfilled her last minute duties

Up until now I had only seen one WR pamplet, neighbor got a door knock from WR, I must not have been home. The last 3 days have been that same pamphlet with the big picture of Redford with the granny pearls and the fake smile.

That Clay Davis for premier thing makes me feel good, cause it means more people are discovering The Wire, aka the best piece of entertainment America has ever produced.

It's all about the leaders. The local candidate could be a toilet bowl.

I wonder if it's too late for the disgraced Chinese Politburo member, Bo Xilai, to enter our little race here... I would certainly welcome a little Maoist spirit to spruce up the campaign. I would be perfectly willing to sell my vote for dim sum...

I hate to tell you, but you always see politicians doing this. I have never seen one who won't stick around and answer questions, regardless of whether they would rather go home. Thats basically their job at this point.

Indeed. It is the politicians who will do that outside of an election cycle that are rare.

FYP
It will be a long time, if ever, before door knocking or other face to face meeting with constituents will not be the best way to gain individual votes.

Absolutely. Just to mention, as a guy who has "been there" let me say something about door-knocking here. I hear a lot of people say things like "no one has ever come to my door" or "thats the only time...". People have to realise just how large a task it is to get to every door in a riding. Its possible if you start early and work really hard, but depending on the actual riding its probably not feasible. To hit 10-20,000 doors is an enormous amount of time and effort, and while I am a firm believer that it pays off, the whole thing can be derailed by a bad party campaign or policy platform.
If you live on a main drag you will get knocked all the time because they want sign locations, but if you're on a sleepy cul-de-sac chances aren't as high.

Got hit by WRA for another donation of 2 bill. I never donated in my life to a political party but not this time. It's all because of Smith and she is the WRA. Without her, WRA has no party to speak of.
A lot of the debates here are about platform, policy, gay loving or white supremacy but I think you all get it wrong. It's all about the likability of the leader and their charisma.

Yup, charisma and likeability are what its all about, hence why Americans(well the USSC but thats another argument) chose GWB over Al Gore....how'd that work out for them again?

I don't flattery myself as I hardly think I have that kind of impact on people. You most likely won't vote WR anyway.

I'm just stating a fact. If Redford is the WR leader and Smith is the PC leader, it'll be a PC landslide victory.

Thats very difficult to say though. I don't think Redford is a bad leader whatsoever (she was ranked as most competent and would make the best premier in a poll not that long ago), I think she's suffering more from her party than anything. So if Smith come into the exact same situation as Redford, taking over a party seen as corrupt and going in the wrong direction, I don't think its a given she would turn the PCs into some juggernaut.

I just received my first piece of literature from a Senate candidate. An independent from Edmonton. William Exelby!
The senate election is a joke. Candidates align with a party and think they can get in on the coat tails of the party.

I realize that the new riding of Livingstone-Macleod I am in is huge...it stretches from the southern boundaries of the Tsuu Tina, borders the Rockies to the west, and goes all the way down south to Waterton Park. I don't expect the candidates to come to my door, pretty well impossible if you look on a map to see what that would encompass.
At the same time, I have had the same mailing address and voting station since 1980. To not receive anything from any of the candidates, to at least identify them by name, to me borders on complaceny and laziness by all of them.
