Maybe someone posted this already but Canadians have the reputation of often not tipping at all here. I'm not going to argue whether or not it is true statement or justifiable act. I just know servers dread waiting on Canadians.
On the other hand, how many visitors do we get from Alberta here? Not many.

Stupid Quebecois ruining our good reputation. You wouldn't be able to tell the average Albertan from a real good-looking American anyway.

Well Canadians do have a really bad reputation for not tipping down here. But then again, most of the Canadians who visit here are from Quebec or Ontario. It's tough to find anyone who's actually heard of Alberta, unless he or she is a hockey fan
Anyway, I was always under the impression that the tip was included in the bill up there and that's why they don't tip??! So this thread was kinda surprising to me. I really thought the tip was added in. ;(
Anyway, Springs1 's posts remind me of that movie "Falling Down".

Honestly... Americans are one of the only people that place a strong emphasis on tipping. In most European countries, its usually meant to reward exceptional service, but is often unexpected. When I went over to Australia, I even had a lot of people tell me not to tip because it would ruin it for them and create a culture of tipping.
The price on the menu should be the price you pay. Anything else is voluntary. Personally, I blame Americans for having to tip regardless of the service... sh**** or not.

I blame Europeans and Australians for menu prices. If they didn't pay there staff so much I could save on food and decide based on the service I get how much to pay the staff.

In all honesty, I do not want to pay the staff, i want to pay the establishment for the food and service and have the establishment pay the staff.
Kind of like shopping a store; how often do you pull out your 5s, 10s, and 20s to tip the kid who spent 2hrs helping you shop for a TV?
I do however tip 5-15% at a restaurant due to social norms.

She has posted on Shaving forums, monster truck fans, automobile, North Carolina state, senior citizens forums and now Calgary Puck and so many more we don't know about,
She actually responds individually to replies and posts about her. The time this must take to do and that it has gone on for this long is amazing!
The conversation has literally not evolved in the slightest. The problems she had in 03, remain the EXACT same ones she talks about now.
And she is not phased by it all, by the backlash everywhere she posts, she continues to discuss these same things, a decade later. Truly amazing.

I think you're right. This is amazing. I thought moon was committed to a shtick, but Springs 1 is on a whole other level. Springs 1 makes moon look like a moderator.

I had a taxi driver in Vegas who took me to my hotel from the airport. The fare was $24.90 and I handed him $40. He gave me ten back and I said that was good to which he responded "Are you sure you don't want the dime?" in a really snotty voice. I told him that he only gave me 10 back and he claimed that was because I gave him $30 instead of $40 even though he still had my 20's in his hand and the math didn't make sense either way. So he gave me the 5 and made the same snotty remark about wanting my 10 cents back. As I walked away he told me that unlike in Canada it is customary to tip in the States if you have received a service. I wanted to tell him off but went inside instead.
I don't mind that he screwed up the change but his attitude towards my initial tip and lack of remorse when he realized his mistake pissed me off so he got no tip.
