Johnny Gaudreau with a goal tonight as BC wins their 19th in a row, 5th Frozen Four by a score of 4-1.
Once again TSN2 will have a tape delayed of the final on Sunday morning @ 11:00 AM MT.

What do the Flames risk by signing him this summer? Do they just lose a contract?

The risk is putting a physically immature teenager into the pro leagues and ruining him. Some guys go the longer college route for a season, and with a smaller guy like Gaudreau it's apparent why.
He's never going to be a big player obviously but he still needs to fill out and get stronger. Throwing him into the AHL at this point would kill him I think.

Cammalleri spent 3 years with Michigan and he was very close to Gaudreau's size at the time. I expect nothing less from Gaudreau.
Of course, Cammalleri's freshmen numbers weren't nearly as good as Gaudreau's have been.

Draft Pick
|
Its ironic, when Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USA USHL Jr's originally joined the league in the 80's our Star player was Gary Suter who was drafted and helped win The Cup (there is only one Cup that matters) for the Flames. We had a greedy owner who lost the team and we brought them back last year and our first year back we get Johnny Goo and were does he get drafted too...the Flames. I wonder if that's a sign of Lord Stanley s cup returning to Calgary??
That break away tonight was awesome, funny that he didnt get drafted a lot higher.

But part of that worries me a bit. All that time spent in Boston... maybe he'd refuse to sign with the Flames.

Sign him after three years of school...let him finish his degree in the summer...

He looks bigger too. Not huge, but not 5-6.

Just watched the game. Arnold looked good all game. Plays a very nice two way game.
That goal bu Gaudreau was a beauty. I agree, he looks bigger than 5' 6"
Flames fans have to get past this complex where they find some reason for every prospect not to sign with the Flames.

+1
I can't wait until they announce a few signings of draft picks, maybe then people will realize not every kid is Erixon. Gaudreau is a good prospect, enjoy it.

Too bad he's a couple of year away. Maybe the Flames can get him to leave college and go play in the W.

He's listed as 5'7" on the BC Eagles site.

I'm not sure the dub is the right league for him. As a smaller guy, a bit of a lighter league with more recovery time between games is nice. He can keep progressing without as much risk of injury.

The NCAA is a bigger, and harder league to play in. These are 18-24 year olds he's competing with; not 15-21 year olds. The fact he went PPG in the NCAA as an 18 year old is ridiculous. Toews wasn't even a PPG during his freshman season.

Toews was a 17-year-old freshman at ND. I think Gaudreau is a fantastic prospect with a very bright future, but if you are comparing him to Toews, a better comparison would be his 18-year-old season in which he played as a sophomore.
