safety inspections for older vehicles

does anyone know if all AB car insurance companies require a safety inspection for vehicles 12 years old or older? - are there some insurance companies that will insure a vehicle over 12 years old without a safety inspection? - any help would be appreciated

I do share your concern if there is anything that would be rejected beyond the windshield, it should be repaired before you put a car on the road.

Most likely the OP doesn't want to pay for a superfluous inspection.

I am thinking about buying an old beater, but I walk most of the time and barely drive anywhere. I dont want to incur the cost of a safety inspection every year for a vehicle that I barely drive - it seems silly to get an inspection, drive 1000 kms, and get another inspection

you only have to inspect it one time and it is only for the insurance the first time you insure the vehicle.

RBC also does not require an insurance inspection.

While I understand what you are getting at- have you ever been involved in an accident caused by mechanical failure? If so, what is your ratio of mechanical failure to driver error accidents?

Yes, a safer vehicle is safer. It just bugs me that vehicles are being scrapped because they have $1000 worth of front end or suspension issues that are enough to cause them to fail an inspection, but don't mean the vehicle is going to fall apart. Meanwhile we have drivers pass one test when they are 16, and never have to be re-tested.
