Ken King - Is his time coming to an end?
We've all heard it... full scale changes are going to happen.. Does this mean Ken King has his job on the line as well?
A true change of culture would involve King/Sutter/half of this room gone. I feel King's job should be on the line and in my opinion full scale changes start with him getting the axe. What good has he done the last few years other then ramble on and potentially handcuff our GM. (now I know he can't really do much else.. but it seems he still holds a lot of the cards with regards to trades/drafting etc..)
Changes need to be made.. and I feel it's time for a new "King"

I think a new direction should be taken in regards to King. the two names that come to mind as his replacement are Bob Nicholson and/or Cassie Campbell's husband, forget his name right now?

I think Bob Nicholson would be a great choice. We need someone who is able to recognize and change that stupid "win is now" mandate. Lets be honest that stupid mandate hasn't gotten us anywhere in the last few years and poor Feaster can't do anything about it. Cheers to an 11th place finish yet again.

Why do I get the feeling that most of the people calling for King's head don't even know what he does. As long as the dome is full and progress is being made on the new stadium, he'll likely be retained.

sadly you hit the nail right on the head (no pun intended) as long as they continue to sell out the dome then the owners are happy. However, this year when I tried to buy tickets I always paid less then FV... this was the first year that I found it easy to do that and I see a decline in attendance starting to happen.

I hope some changes are made, hopefully the team keeps making money and can afford to bring in some real tallent. I just wonder if he's the problem or the owners are.

I think the owners have to change philosophy from "win now" to "re-tool", and trust that the fans will keep selling-out the Dome.

Where did he say that?
I highly overestimate this market if we can't handle a rebuild. There's a lot of differences between rebuilding nowdays than what occured in the young guns era. If Flames attendence dip down to early 2000s level after a couple years of a rebuild, then Canadian cheerleaders shouldn't bloat that hockey is much better here than in southern US markets.
I'm pretty sure this city can handle a rebuild; especially if Edmonton can.

re-tool will never work for this team. The pieces you're going to want to keep have the most value and the ones you're going to want to get rid of have little to no value.
Trade the main pieces and get value

I think the locals will be more receptive to a rebuild of that is the message delivered. The city is frustrated when management says they wan to win yet 3 years in a row they missed the playoffs and 5 of the last 6 years they have been a bubble team
With the terrible UFA pool this year I think the flames can get quite a bit for Kipper and Iggy

Where have we heard that "full scale changes are going to happen"?
Given the need for a new building, the recent acquisition of teams like the Roughnecks and Stamps, and other factors I can't imagine the owners handing the keys to the kingdom to someone else right now.

Man, it really stuns me that people here still don't know what Kings role is. His role towards actual on-ice operations is very very minimal and more about the business side of the Club. He has been very successful since taking over and doubt he'll be going anywhere.

King hired and fired Darryl Sutter. He was also in on the Glencross contract negotiation.
If you are suggesting that selling tickets and planning the new building is all he does, here would be two examples were King was involved in hockey operations.
Therefore, as the boss, he should be held accountable for the on ice product
Fire Ken King!

From the business side, hasn't King pretty much delivered though?
I am not sure how much we can blame him for the on-ice problems. There is "rumour" that he has been influencing hockey decisions, but unless something is concrete, then I don't see how he gets the blame.

Don't kid yourself. King is a big part of the problem and is a lot more involved with the on ice product than most presidents should be. A change in direction absolutely should start with him getting the boot and frankly if it doesn't happen it speaks further volumes on the incompetence of this ownership group.
But then again this is the same ownership group that kept Ron freaking Bremner around for years and years so it wouldn't surprise me all that KK keeps leading this mess forward.

Honestly, if King had just stayed on the business side and not starting to make proclamations about roster and "finding someone else to run the place if they needed to fire Sutter" and the whole 97% renewal dismissal I wouldn't have a problem with him staying.
However he hasn't, and he's sort of made his bed if he gets let go. Someone mentioned it in another thread as well, the Flames experience outside of the on ice action is getting a little stale, so maybe it's time for someone with a new vision.
