Default Please help, urgent regarding facebook of deceased individual

I am reaching out for help here, and please this is dire.

Someone very close to me has recently died, and I have no idea who to contact at Facebook, or what link to click to get access to the account. Because of the circumstances I desperately need to pull his account down.

Thank you.

You have this:

http://www.facebook.com/help/contact...05593649477238

but I don't know exactly what memorialize account means.

edit: from here
Quote:
What does memorializing an account mean? Does it deactivate or delete it?
When a user passes away, we memorialize their account to protect their privacy. Memorializing an account sets the account privacy so that only confirmed friends can see the profile (timeline) or locate it in search. Friends and family can leave posts in remembrance. Memorializing an account also prevents anyone from logging into the account.
so unless this guy had his profile privacy settings wide open, this likely will not accomplish anything.

more from

http://www.time.com/time/magazine/ar...920295,00.html

Quote:
The company responded by creating a "memorial state" for profiles of deceased users, in which features such as status updates and group affiliations are removed. Only the user's confirmed friends can continue to view the profile and post comments on it.
If next of kin ask to have a profile taken down, Facebook will comply. It will not, however, hand over a user's password to let a family member access the account, which means private messages are kept just that.
if you are, or can pretend to be next of kin, looks like they might remove it all together.

Memorializing the account:
It is our policy to memorialize all deceased users' accounts on the site. When an account is memorialized, only confirmed friends can see the profile (timeline) or locate it in Search. The profile (timeline) will also no longer appear in the Suggestions section of the Home page. Friends and family can leave posts in remembrance.

In order to protect the privacy of the deceased user, we cannot provide login information for the account to anyone. However, once an account has been memorialized, it is completely secure and cannot be accessed or altered by anyone.

If you need to report a profile (timeline) to be memorialized, please click here.

Removing the account:
Verified immediate family members may request the removal of a loved one’s account from the site.

Well, that memorializing thing is the creepiest thing I've ever read.

Hope everything works out Pylon, thoughts are with you.

Well, no.

I've had two people close to me pass away recently and their policy is pretty much exactly what you would want.

When someone close dies, there are soooo many things to deal with, a facebook profile is just one of many. I'm glad it's an easy process and one that lends itself to being able to honour the person appropriately.

Anybody personal friends with pylon? If so, I don't think it would hurt to give him a call to make sure everything is cool. I just looked him up on Facebook and his profile is gone - I know it used to be there because I creeped it once when he gave out his name. He's been acting a little off lately...

I think I have his cell on my old phone, but I would feel awkward asking "yo dude you alive? "

It seems that was him posting as him self asking about Facebook, no?

Well that came from the Nenshi thread a few days ago, where Table5 responded to his comments about Nenshi and he took it pretty personally.

Just checked, that was 5 days ago, and the only time since he has posted was this thread.

Yeah I think it was actually him posting. I don't know, it's probably nothing, but I just have a funny feeling with this thread.

Pylon texted Fan 960 last night with a scathing attack on the coilers and Edmonton in general, so I would assume he's ok

It's always really weird when someone on a message board passes away. I've had it happen a few times, reading their messages is like listening to ghosts.
