What is real world? I'll define, for me, real world as the jobs I held before I finally knew what I wanted to do, which is become a professional computer geek.
* worked at a sports cards store, mostly sorting cards and opening boxes but worked the counter a few times
* casual labour for my friend. He'd get jobs that he couldn't handle by himself, and when he realized it he'd call me up and pay me to help him.
* lots of other casual labour jobs. Setting up and taking down exhibitions, yard work etc.
* worked with my dad at a feedlot when the other guy who worked with my dad went on holidays. A couple of weeks a year for a couple of years. I hated that job with a passion.
* KFC - got me through school my first time through. I took Business but it wasn't for me, but I didn't realized it until I was halfway done so I finished it anyway and I worked partime at KFC until I was done.
* Canadian Tire - just a stop along the way until I figured out what I wanted to do. I loved the job at first but knew I had to do something else. I had my eye on a career in the IT field but didn't have any plans to go to school yet. Then the manager of my department told me she was quitting, I knew that the supervisor would become manager and I'd become supervisor... just what I had always wanted... only, I didn't want it anymore, the next day I applied to go to school for IT. I stayed at Canadian Tire until my final year of school... I got married that summer and didn't need to work Crappy Tire anymore.
Now I'm in the "real world" and I'm a professional computer geek.
