The bridge is here now we should all just learn to see it for what it is. A unique structure that adds a little something to the City.

It wasn't the lateness of the project that set this off. The newspapers have never been objective. ("Bridge over River, Why?" headlined the Sun even before the project kicked off).

Went to check out the bridge today...quick thoughts.

1) It looks better from far away, but I'm still not crazy about the color. Was hoping it was going to be more of a fiery red...in person it seems more burgundy. I'd either prefer a more red-red, or my original choice, Calatrava white!

2)The steel looks really rough and bumpy in a lot of places. Is this the sub-par welding we're talking about, or does all steel look like this up close?

3) My guess is the city will be putting up a few more painted bike lane designations inside the bridge. When I was there, there were more than a few people waking on the bike path, and some were biking on the pedestrian side.

4) Can't wait to see it in the summer with some landscaping. I think it will really tie it all together quite nicely.

And of course the Running Room groups were already hogging up the entire bike lane...

I think I'll go have a latte now.

I'm getting close to losing my #*#@ with runners thinking they are bikes on the river walk. I understand that maybe concrete wasn't the greatest path material choice for your knees sake, but there is a 15 foot wide path for you and pedestrians, so get off the one with all the freaking painted bicycles on it!!

I went on Saturday with a friend who works at Delcan as a bridge engineer. He commented that apparently the bridge is red because of it's proximity to the helipad.

He liked the bridge, but prefers Calatrava's other work more.

Also of note, he mentioned that the Delcan proposal for the St. Patricks Island bridge was rejected for not being expensive enough.

Interesting that there's so many interchange critics here, but at least the majority of those are serving somewhere in the order of thousands of vehicles per day - or will in the near future. I've been checking out the new bridge/landmark now and again for most of the morning from my office, and for the most part there's no one on it.

Really??? It seems to be under performing on its third day, maybe we should try and trade it to Columbus for Rick Nash.

How about the LRT bridge and the Prince's Island bridge? Are they jam packed? Empty? Hard to compare with no comparisons.

I can't tell you about the activity during the day because like most people I too am at work and not enjoying our new pedestrian bridge.

So there were only a few people using it on its first weekday in pretty dismal weather, and you're declaring failure already? Coincidentally, the sidewalk outside of my office has seen fewer pedestrians today as well.
