Default First summer in Calgary..

Hey everyone, just looking to get some advice from some fellow CPers. I am moving into an apartment either downtown or in the NW close to the University for May (apartment hunting right now). I am looking to play some summer hockey and possibly some beer league baseball. Unlike Prince George where there is one league for each, I'm under the understanding that each league operates out of a given community? Does anyone have any leagues they recommend for either sport? I played AAA Rep as a goalie, and have both my goalie set as well as a player set here as well. Just looking to get some info on leagues/prices/sign up dates. I would prefer to join a league as a player, but I would be happy to strap on the pillows as well. I'm also open to drop ins if there are people looking for a tendy. As for the baseball, just looking for a fun league to join with a few other people (not enough to make a team) but yeah.. nothing serious.

Theres quite a few beer leagues here in Calgary, something like 5 or 6, I play in the HNA, which basically you try out and yeah.. usually ranges about ~$500 for the season, I know theres a summer league starting soon, but other cp'ers can put more info on that because Im currently in France studying so I got no clue about it right now

Ok. If you are open to "being patient" you could join Calgary Sport and Social Club as a single. Check it out. They offer a lot of sports, I've played various things for years with them. You have to be patient, because if you join as a single, you'll be with some beginners. The second season (each season is only 3 months) will be better because you'll weed out the weak.

I asked about the car, because sometimes it's all around town, and it's not worth it if you don't have a car.

They don't offer hockey I don't think- but I have seen some ads in my area for superleagues.ca, not sure exactly what their deal is, but it is ball hockey.

I did Alberta Summer Hockey League last summer, some great hockey, was division 2 with my brother and some friends, we were all AA, AAA, div 1 players back in high school so it's quality hockey.

I haven't played softball in the CSSC, but I do play Ultimate Frisbee with them and really enjoy my time with them. All sorts of skill levels and lots of good people.

I played on a singles team a few seasons back and we've been a team ever since.

I'm planning on joining CSSC for a sport or 2 this year to stay active.

I'm guessing from you guys that they're a good organization to go with?

for random co-ed sports, yeah, they are good

I'd say if you wanted to play a specific sport, there are better organizations for baseball, ultimate, etc.

edit: for reference sake, I have played both dodgeball and ultimate frisbee with the CSSC.

Assuming you are moving here from Prince George...you are going to LOVE Calgary.

I don't mind co-ed. I'm looking at something like basketball and soccer. I'm not particularly good either, but really just looking to have fun.

Would CSSC be the best option for someone looking for a slo-pitch team? I'd just be signing up as a single.

Best advice I can give is to check the activities section on Calgary Kijiji:
http://calgary.kijiji.ca/f-community...ps-W0QQCatIdZ7

They always seem to have spots open for hockey and baseball players. Check it, and check it often. If you are a goalie, sometimes you even get to play for free.
