Default Golden, BC

Hey all i was just wondering about the little town called Golden, BC.

Have any of you ever been there? I have a job offer there (construction) and i would be there until December. I'm young and dont have anything tying me down so i'm pretty excited to go to the rockies and adventure around.

Any comments on the place? is it a good place to go to? I know its right by Banff and Calgary. Maybe i could hit up some Calgary-Canucks games maybe even for the playoffs!

Whitewater rafting on the Kickinghorse River.

Stay at the Golden Rim Motor Inn. Soft water and a colour tv.

I have heard nothing but good things about golden, but have only passed through on other adventures, and always at night... so i couldn't tell you...

I guess you'd have to look at the construction market in golden. Be nice to be, but is it as booming as calgary still is?

its just a 1 time job offer with this company buildnig a resort up there.

so i'd be there till december thats probly as long as i could stand living in a tiny town like that.

The Construction industry is booming all over Western Canada right now.

With 2010 here in Van, and with the Oil sands in Alberta. Lots of jobs. crazy stuff.

Be sure to buy a mountain bike when there. Tons of trails around that area.

I have an aunt and a gaggle of cousins living just outside of town . . . . .

I wouldn't say its "right beside Banff and Calgary" . . . . . just getting from Golden to Lake Louise, which doesn't look far on the map, involves wading through a pretty dangerous road that is also being re-constructed, with some major delays.

Still . . . . . I think it would be a wonderful place to spend a summer and part of a winter.

Well if you're working construction and not getting a lot of time off to go out and enjoy the outdoors it might not be the most fun. Unless you go skiing/snowboarding, rafting, snowmobiling, or mountain biking there ain't a whole heck of a lot to do there. It's still like 8 hours from Vancouver and depending on traffic 3 to 3 and a half from Calgary. Lots of great outdoor like things to do, but if you're working long hours and weekends in construction and are going to be tired at days end you'll want to keep that in mind. Also be ware of what the company offers you for lodging etc... being a bit of a small outpostish place basic things are a touch more costly there than they are in a city.
