Yup, kind of makes the sole-sourcing of the architect for the other bridge seem like a good idea eh?

The polished metal will look great with the proposed lighting, I think.

My biggest beef with the chosen design is that the ramp down to the island seems like an afterthought, compared to many of the designs.

The change to different size arches improved the design from the original proposal.

I has been suggested that we refer to the bridge as "The Daver" due to this article, I kind of like it!
I'd rather not associate that twit with it, when he suspiciously pushed it through right to the land he just had the city sell below market value to his buddy (La Caille Group). Lots of things Bronconnier did really made him look like an underhanded #######, who is still getting paid by my tax dollars today.

I agree about the ramp to the island. I would have liked 2 ramps. Both positioned at the bridge at the end points of the middle arc, and they curve and merge together at the island.

Food trucks will be set up along the pathway system on the south side of the bridge and the Big Bike roving coffee cart will be circulating through the park.

This is a rather telling quote. I could've sworn one end of the bridge is in Ward 8.

I missed that, usually Markusoff is pretty good with his fact checking.

The bridge sent out an olive branch tweet today.

Nope, both ends are in Ward 7. Ward 8 ends at 3rd Avenue.

Just got back from the opening... actually pretty surprised at how large the turnout was... huge throng of people there... it was a bit like trying to cross the bridge over Crowchild after a Stamps game, but with people stopping to pose for pictures along the way. Still, it really is stunning to walk through. Looking forward to going back when there are fewer people.

Unreal, huge crowd and the bridge is massive when you are in it. Can't wait to use it again tomorrow!

Any sightings of Rick Bell hiding in the bushes with his pen and notepad?

I was standing about 10 feet away from him during the mayors speech. The sight of so many people out to support the opening must have been killing him. Curious to see how he can spin it his way. I saw maybe 2 or 3 people with signs against the bridge, an incredibly small minority.

Completely forgot about this. Was actually heading down to the bridge towards curling centre, but saw a large crowd at the south foot of the bridge so figured it was opening today rather than tomorrow. Took a stroll down the bridge myself. Surprised by the turnout. Good to see.

Some pics.
Spoiler!
