Heh yeah, that would be better!
I used to live in Lloydminster, so my desire to vacation there is pretty low

I'm likely a little biased, but I'd recommend Slim's Cabins
(biased because I have a cabin right near there and go every summer)
Absolutely gorgeous and great fishing.

This is a bit OT but since this a rare Saskatchewan topic, does anybody know where Steelman, Sask is? Is there oil & gas or some kind of liquid gas plant or facility in that area?
I've been told I'm going to be flown out there to do some IT work next week and I don't know anything about that place. Google maps just shows miles and miles of farmland.

That area is practically all farm land and O&G. There's a gas plant by Steelman.
You'll probably be staying in Estevan (pop. about 10,000) as it's about half an hour from there.

Thanks, that sounds about right. What's there to eat or do around Estevan?

BPs is probably your best bet... maybe Tower Cafe if you're there for more than a day and want something different.
Not much to do to be honest. I have some friends there and my fiancée grew up there so whenever I'm there, it's mostly seeing family or going for beers with said friends. There's a bowling alley fairly close to the BPs I guess.

Let's see.... you could go check out the mines, bring your passport and head down to Noonan or Portal for some duty free. Go swimming at the wave pool. Golf in Portal and hit your tee shot over an international border. Check out the dam. Go fishing in the spill piles or at Boundry.
The chinese place by the Derrick isn't bad, well, not terrible. The tower as mentioned isn't bad, the Beefeeter, Houston's Pizza. Catch a movie at the theatre, if the one show you want to watch is playing for that week. Help my uncle finish building his house. There are tonnes of things to do!

Well no, but the reunion is in Saskatoon and I really don't want to drive the entire week.

The casino at Kenosee.
@Photon : Table Mountain (I use the term loosely) near North Battleford is (was) pretty nice. It's been well over a decade since I've been there, so things may have changed. I have some relatives that still go there once in a while and enjoy the area. It's certainly closer to Saskatoon than the qu'apple valley (which yes, is nice. If you do end up going there make sure you go for steak night at the crab shack if it's not underwater this year.)

Here's a suggestion, if you're planning on renting a cabin in the Emma-Waskesiu area, what I would do is drive to Prince Albert, stock up on groceries, and drive another 30-45 minutes to your cabin. In all, it should take you no more than 3 hours to get there, that's including a 1 hour stop in PA. Once you get there, you probably won't be driving too much. If you do need to restock your groceries, there is a small family-run business less than 5 minutes away from the main village area in Emma Lake called Ambrose Grocery. They have a liquor store on-site as well. If you rent a cabin, near Sunset Bay perhaps, the beach and marina are literally footsteps away. Another suggestion is if you have a bike rack, bring your bike along with you. There are many beautiful paths and trails, just watch out for people on ATVs. The town of Christopher Lake (about 10 minutes from Emma) has a bank, but there are several ATMs in the area. Of course, Prince Albert is the main commercial centre in Northern Saskatchewan, so you may wish to return for cheaper gas, food etc. Keep in mind it is a 30-45 minute drive.

I'm in Estevan right now (more than likely doing work for the company you'll be doing work for) and there is F-all to do here unless you want to drink with rig pigs. Word to the wise: Do not order "the largest meat lovers pizza" from Houston Pizza. It tastes good but my jaw almost hit the floor when the delivery guy told me I owed him $48.
