So for those of you that have bikes, do you have any insurance company recommendations? I am thinking of buying a street triple in the next couple of weeks and I just wanted to call around and find out what I am looking at as far as insurance goes.

I have Nordic insurance, I think they're pretty reasonable.

I use TD...as they give a decent discount for being an Alumni of Bishop's and the U of C

I used Nordic as well. They allowed me to insure without having my license. Not sure if I am going to keep the bike this year I have had a tough time getting out riding.

I use The Insurance Guys, I phoned about 3 times and "for fun" wanted to see a quote online. Then the online quote called me (TGI) and told me their rate and it was cheaper than everyone else. Luckily I filled the quote out, but definitely shop around, I ended up saving hundreds of $ from the first company I talked to.

Mine was around 400 for the season not being licensed and no rider training course. To give you a rough idea with license and course you shouldn't be paying more then that

Is that full coverage or liability? I just bought two new bikes, dont have my class 6 yet, doing a training course next week, and I paid around $1450 for both bikes.

That was just liability. My friend who had full coverage with course and license was 360 on his Triumph Legend before our neighbor backed into it and wrote it off. 1450 for 2 bikes seems high does it not even for full coverage? Considering you can't ride both at same time the second bike should be significantly cheaper

Depends on the bike you end up purchasing. There are 2 main insurance companies I deal with. Nordic and Jevco. Its is all dependant on the class of bike.
If you want you can PM me and I can see what i can do to help if you like.

Every person is different when it comes to pricing. Dollar value of the bike, age of the driver, licenced or not licenced. There are quite a few factors that take place. Just be sure to deal with someone that knows what coverage SHOULD be on a bike.

That does seem a little high, but again it can depend on the bikes you have.
PM me if you want and I can have a look into it for you.

Try owning a Ducati... Jevco will not even insure them
Nordic does but at a steep premium.
I guess I have to pay to play. Still shopping though.

I have 2 bikes, a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 and a 2005 Suzuki S83 and they cost me $114 each per year to insure with just liability through Wawenesa. Neither are classed as "sport bikes" although in 1980 that KZ750 was one of the fastest 750's around and its still a really fun bike to ride. Wawenesa has rules with their insurance if you want the really cheap rates, like no bikes over 600 cc in the first three years of your license, etc and I believe they won't even insure bikes like ninjas period. Their coverage suits my needs well right now though.

Maybe we should have CP ride someday to Elbow Falls or down the #40 to Longview...

Pretty sure its a million but I don't have the policy handy and the bikes are in storage for a couple more days dependent on the weather. That price was without having a license or training course but on the requirement that within a year I got my class 6 or they wouldn't renew it. I got my class 6 about 3 months after I registered and insured the bikes after I taught myself to ride by riding around the acreage. I did end up getting one ticket for riding alone without a class 6 and that was $275 I believe but no demerit points on my license. I'm pretty sure cops will just run plates when they are pulled up behind bikes to check things out and thats what happened to me. Also I'm not in Calgary but in a smaller town so that would likely make a difference too.

If one or both of those bikes is a Harley then thats probably about right. I think my rep said there is like a 25-35% premium right off the bat because they are stolen so much.

The drive out to Elbow Falls is rather nice. Another nice ride is taking the backroad #1A(?) to Canmore.
Pylon tries to set up a meet every year, but you guys always go way too early for me. I go out at lunch time, Pylon kept trying to set up a meet for like 9:30 in the morning (less traffic so I understand why). Can be cold in the mornings though.
