Just wanted to post this here since the bad stories often outweigh the good.
My mom is moving into a new place and I convinced her to get the gateway since it appeared to be the best option, saving her almost $40 over her Bell TV and Regular Shaw internet, plus giving her a landline. The install was booked from 1-5 and the guy showed up at 2:30 and was done before 4, hooking up 3 portals. The only glitchs was the work order didn't have the 3rd portal on it, so it had to be added before it was provisioned and they seem to have her personalizer package mixed up, so the tech was going to call and get that worked out. I didn't spend much time with the guide but is clearly a drastic improvement over the old guides, and it is very responsive.

Just got the gateway hooked up this weekend and I hate it so far. The guide is very slow and even unresponsive at times and the feed looks very choppy when watching fast moving images like hockey in a setting higher than 1080i (TV is 1080p 120 Hz).
Anyone else having these issues or know how to fix them?
Side Note: Any idea when Shaw will get the NFL network in HD?

If you set the portal to only 1080p then that will cause your stuttering issue.
Set the portal to 1080i, 1080p 24 hz and 1080p 30hz. As a minimum, 1080i must be checked.
Its a known issue, where the portals don't up convert properly to 1080p. Natively it handles 1080p signals just fine.

I have the same problem. Got them on chat and they tried to reset my gateway and their "network" was unable to communicate with my gateway, even after several reboots. They have to send someone out to fix it. Brutal. Way to go Shaw, sending out boxes that they haven't thoroughly tested. If they can't communicate with my gateway then that also probably means I'm not getting other software updates. No wonder the thing works like a POS.

I am not pleased with this Gateway, it almost went off the balcony the other night.
I was surfing through the guide in the HD channel range, it would freeze, go blank and resume at channel 002. POS!

Recently moved to a new house and decided to get this, it will be hooked up on Friday. After reading these comments I wonder if I made the right decision. Hopefully I don't run into the same problems as some of you have.

For all my complaints there are some redeeming qualities, tuners galore, multiple room pvr, many more features with the series recordings, among other stuff.

The only thing I'd want to see added is DLNA support for playing downloaded/purchased movie/TV show content from my home network

I don't really have much negative to say about the Gateway system after 6 months of use. Other than the occasional remote lag issue and very infrequently my guide will take 15-20 seconds to populate.
Otherwise I think the system has gotten a lot better/more stable and the updates that Shaw/Arris have released have a lot to do with that.
Just ignore the fact that Arris apparently forgot about daylight savings time.

Well I just found out shaws been screwing me since te gateway promo. The wife took care of bills since it is in her name. I signed on for that 99 dollar promo and it was supposed to come with all HD channels except movies and hd net. I looked at the bill today and we have been paying 115 a month and now my discovery channel doesn't work. Or sportsnet world but I assume that is because it was a free trial.

Did the $99 promo include equipment? I don't remember. That extra seems like it would cover a gateway and portal EasyOwn fee.

I got my gateway installed the other day and so far I like it, but I understand why some of you complain about it.
One thing though that I dont like is it doesnt have an input button. Or am i just missing something?
I play xbox and watch movies alot, so I need to watch on other inputs. I have 2 controllers, but it be nice to just have the 1.

I agree it would be nice to have an input button on the remote, particularly since I find control of the Gateway via my universal remote to be a bit iffy. Overall I'm happy with the system so far though, aside from slow response times (probably a function of sending a signal to the portal, which then has to communicate with the gateway, as opposed to directly controlling a single device).

Hoping someone can help me out here:
We're in the process of a new build and our electrician is setting up TV/cable outlets etc, and I have a few questions. We want to try the Gateway over Optik, but I remain open to suggestions.
What connects the portals to the gateway? Is it standard coax cable or something else? How big are the portals?

Found this on DH.ca.

27cm wide
16.5cm deep not including assorted wires hanging out the back.
4.5cm tall

The portals connect to the Gateway with coax.

I recommend having cat5e (or higher) ran everywhere you are putting a cable outlet. As more "Smart" Tv's come out and technology shifts away from hdmi to Ethernet you will be happy to have the accessibility all ready there.
